The Commoner's Thread: The Death of SCP

Our site is so irrelevant and insignificant that they've only heard of us now but also they've made several articles just to mock us...
It is ironic when every community decides to mock each other (unintentionally or not) and trash talk. I safely assuming they mocking us out of amusement.

It is a rarity to find even a slightest hint of civility. Personally, I get ppl don’t like to follow rules especially when those rules came from folks that wants to reign in the more negative traits of mankind in general.

Okay, enough of my rumbling, I have said my piece on specific things

It goes without saying but don't feed them more reasons to cling onto this.

Move on swiftly and without engaging and this whole thing will blow over in a week.
Wars between vsbattles and scp users would be pretty funny me thinks

While a good idea, I would suggest that most collaborative fiction verses are theoretically fine. SCP is unique because it is open collaborative fiction- that is, anyone can contribute, and at least some portion of that population is using their contributions for VSBW-bleed.

Something like the Cthulhu Mythos, which had many many authors, wouldn't suffer the same issues as SCP.
Doctor Who too?

wooohoooooo its finally nearing its enddddddd
Blah blah blah get in the Project Moon thread I see your pfp

Neither FC/OC or JBW want to take in SCP apparently(with the minor exception of JBW only taking the -J SCPs), its likely gonna have its own separate archive or whatever.

Honestly though, what's there to scale? This verse barely has any canon and the little it does have just makes everyone Tier 0 or High 1-A.
Anything that applies or what would be considered cannon to a specific scp. If that were the case then every scp with extended cannon would be tier 1/0 which isn’t the case

I've always had my disputes with some of the bad side of scp fans but it's things like that which make me remember 'yeah, it's not just one-sided here'.

They aren't wrong to be annoyed at the ones who just purposefully get on their nerves, but at the same time it's just 😭

Not sure I'd have permission to post this on the staff thread, but I'd just like to note that some SCP members not wanting their creations used in battleboarding shouldn't be a massive consideration, or at least those creators are misunderstanding the concept of powerscaling to a degree.

Battleboarding and powerscaling is, inherently, not how a piece of media is intended to be consumed. I hate to bring up other media (Because I know how the staff hate such a thing despite the fact that battleboarding is just making lines in the sand and the best thing to do is to make the application of one's standards uniform but that's a conversation for another time), but there are other series that clearly have a disdain or even an outright hate of battleboarding or similar.

Ian Flynn has made statements about Game Sonic that paint a clear picture he doesn't approve of how Sonic is typically handled in powerscaling, and I'm sure I don't have to mention Stan Lee's (in)famous statement that can very easily be interpreted as anti-powerscaling. While these are obviously significantly less blatant and severe cases than what is happening with SCP, as a hatred of powerscaling becomes more and more popular it's possible other creators will express similar sentiments. Deleting our profiles simply because the creators don't want them to exist sets a dangerous standard for the future (With the obvious exception of legal action being taken)

Furthermore, I believe that these writers should try to understand is that powerscaling is not inherently turning characters into statsheets. A very popular aspect of powerscaling, albeit one that this wiki generally does not include, is matchup creation, where the personality and history of a character is much more important than an arbitrary power level. This extends to to versus shows like Death Battle and the late Smash Bracket, which often try to highlight a character's personality and, again, make them far more than a mere statsheet. And, in my experience, powerscaling introduces people to series they never would have paid attention to otherwise.

It's what properly introduced me to Azure Striker Gunvolt and Record of Ragnarok, some of my favorite series of all time, and encouraged me to give series like My Little Pony a chance when I may not have otherwise. And while there are many who are, to put it kindly, less than smart about how they interact with media that's popular in power-scaling; many people have been introduced to and grown to fully appriciate beutiful series like Umineko, Gurren Lagann, Doctor Who, Asura's Wrath, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, OFF and even SCP itself when people may have simply written them off.

Also, in my humble opinion, it is simply fun to compare the feats and powers from different fictional worlds and to think how these powers would interact. Every child has, at some point, asked the question of who would win in a fight between two characters, and I do not think that researching both series to try and create the closest thing you can to a definitive answer is incredibly enjoyable so long as it isn't taken too seriously for too long. And, as an individual and not as a representative of VSBW, I would like to ask these writers to understand that this enjoyment exists and to not attempt to take it away simply because their art is being interpreted in an unexpected manner.

And, to be frank, VSBW has significantly fewer toxic powerscalers than most communities like, say, YouTube Shorts. Having the profiles removed from VSBW would do little-to-nothing to prevent toxicity on other platforms, and attempting to stop that toxicity on those other platforms would frankly be a fool's errand.

My dude, just because some people on twitter try to talk shit does not meant they represent everyone, i think most people are just apathetic. You're taking this battleboarding hate way too seriously, while it does exist, it does not mean you have to pay attention to it.

It isn't a massive consideration for me, at least- it was something a couple of the SCP people respectfully asked I convey, and so I did.

In fact, I mentioned my opinion being much the same, yeah. I view all of this as a new way of engaging with content I was already going to enjoy anyways. I just think they don't 'get' it, which is fine because I think it's safe to say many don't 'get' SCP either, and thus it's easy for either side to speak ill of the other. All I sought was peaceful discussion, and I got it when I offered to answer questions outside the public eye of Twitter. I'm satisfied.

Ultimately, SCP writers consider it our issue whether we want to delete their works from our wiki. I believe they just want whatever decision is chosen to be chosen from a place of understanding of their community. Some of them agreed with the idea that we had users in their ranks that were manipulating things, and as such probably should remove their content from the wiki- but they understand that isn't their decision to make. Most everyone voted one way or the other before the SCP writers/staff jumped onto the story, I don't think they're influencing the votes either way.

I will say, aside from conveying their opinions, that I don't think you're right. SCP is a unique series, and it is not so easy to approach as just reading through a comic book. There are many back alleys and tributaries to it, and it has a much less significant following compared to other types of verses such as manga and video games: therefore, the work produced by our wiki on SCP being so comprehensive is indeed probably the biggest source of SCP powerscaling, due to the sheer mass of pages considered for it. Still, that's just my knowledge on the subject from what resources I have in front of me. I don't think it matters either way.
