The space containing the two areas, generally speaking, is what I referred to when I said that, yes. As I said, your example would work if all the encompassing space is is an extension of the axes already present in the encompassed space.

However, if you, say, have a realm that contains and surrounds a spacetime continuum, and from which you can observe it as an external force, that realm would require at least one more axis. Obviously, other universes spread out across such a realm could still be 4-D, but the area itself would not be.
