Misaka Mikoto’s intelligence CRT

So hopefully this CRT will be proper and easier to read this time. The point of this CRT is to “fix” the recently changed intelligence rating for Misaka Mikoto. She was significantly downgraded from Extraordinary Genius (wasn’t split into categories before) to just Gifted for general intelligence and combat intelligence and Genius for esper ability. I wholeheartedly believe this is wrong and completely incorrect and I will hopefully try to propose my arguments as to why this is wrong and should be changed.

I am proposing that Misaka Mikoto’s intelligence gets upgraded back to

General intelligence = Extraordinary Genius

Combat intelligence = Genius

In Esper powers = Extraordinary Genius

I will try to make the same arguments again but this time back up with scans, quotes and evidence as many of them as possible. I will use Pastebin for the Light Novel quotes and Imgur for manga panels. To not make the post too long let’s start.

———

First, it’s commonly known that in the world of Toaru esper powers work in a unique way which is based on quantum mechanics. It’s not wrong to say that they basically reality warp their powers into existence.

However, using or applying their powers to the real world still requires effort (either conscious or subconscious) and a massive amount of complex calculations which need to be done very quickly (we are talking about split seconds here) in order for their powers to interact with the real world and work properly.

Their calculations need to be 100% accurate and even the simplest mistake would result in the esper ability either misfiring or not producing the desired result.

Even espers weaker than level 5s have some extremely impressive feats which would require massive amounts of calculative and processing power and among all of them the level 5s are the smartest and strongest with extremely impressive calculative and processing feats. We know that the more powerful an esper is, the smarter and more powerful their brains are.

She for example can instantly create giant city spanning storms and control them almost perfectly, that definitely means she can control the particles in those storms and electric charges and pathways and accounting for them and predicting how they will move and behave should take an incredible amount of processing an calculative brain power.

Another instance:

Can very quickly create an enormous skyscraper sized iron sand kaiju and control all the countless particles in it.

On the same note can also make a massive iron sand tsunami which has been described as a mountain of iron sand shaped like a tsunami wave.

She even did something (which she had never done before up until that point) as impressive as water splitting to separate hydrogen and oxygen and make hydrogen fueled wings via static electricity in the air and she did this while under a lot of pressure.

Old Testament Accelerator (a fellow level 5) was able to perfectly calculate and predict all the winds blowing through Academy City down to every single particle and he was also able to decipher and program a human brain. (Check the 4th source). Both of these feats put his brain’s processing and calculative power extra massively beyond that of any supercomputer that we have. While Mikoto obviously has a less powerful brain than him the difference shouldn’t be too enormous, especially considering that 9970 Misaka clones do all the calculations for him after the headshot and they are basically the same as Mikoto but level 2 and 3 (the gap between a level 5 and 2 and 3 is absolutely huge). As for the Misaka clones doing calculations for him after the headshot, here:

Due to having to calculate so many different complex things in very short periods of time her brain is also extremely good for multi-tasking (unlike the vast majority of real life brains) and even outside of that we have a few examples for this as well.

For example, when she was fighting Brunhild, an opponent stronger than her who gave her a very tough fight and was trying to kill her the entire time, despite the fact that Mikoto was fully focused on that fight she was also closely keeping track and monitoring a fight happening a block away and she was keeping track of that fight so closely that she managed to react in a split second and prevent a person from pulling a gun trigger in that fight happening a block away. This happened in the middle of her very tough fight with Brunhild.

Also in Railgun SS1 Mikoto was fighting multiple Aztecs aircrafts, hacking and protecting the civilians all at the same time even while under stress, this too showcases how highly developed her parallel thinking/multi-tasking brain is. The source is Railgun SS1 Liberal Arts City (it’s too long and separated by other things happening in between for me to collect it all and post it as single source but it happens in SS1 and you can go check it)

Speaking of hacking, her hacking skill and intelligence are absolutely incredible. She can hack any system, network or database regardless of how well protected it is and there’s no stopping her. She hacked many secret laboratories and highly guarded student databases in the sisters arc.

Also,

There are many, many more instances

Source for Academy City being 30 years ahead of the rest of the world: https://imgur.com/a/HrWVCPg

She can also hack and fully control any machine, robot or cyborg even if they are far, far more advanced than our world’s machines. She once hacked an army of Academy City’s combat robots (150 in total) and even multiple Five Overs which are the most impressive combat machines AC has (along with the AAA). Five Overs are massively complex machines which can perfectly replicate one power of one level 5 each.

Source: https://pastebin.com/QC7VK9DU#p8yQgN7j

She also once hacked some security robots and programmed them to appear at a specific place and a specific time and protect a group of people, even though her ability got disabled soon after the robots still did exactly what she programmed them to do which suggests incredible programming capabilities.

Source:

If all that isn’t impressive enough then how about this; recently we have learned that Mikoto can hack even at post-quantum level. If that isn’t insanely impressive, I don’t know what is.

Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/HJ7r1dZ

Immediately in the chapter after this one Mikoto code broke a very complex system in one second despite the fact that it would have taken an Academy City’s supercomputer with claimed “unmatchable” processing power and AI support 10 hours to do so. This was so impressive that the owner of the computer was flabbergasted.

She also has absolutely insane engineering/scientific skills and knowledge. In late NT she accidentally stumbled across a combat machine called the A.A.A. which is incredibly advanced. Even for the world of Toaru which is so far ahead of ours scientifically and technologically the A.A.A. still looks like something straight out of sci-fi and it’s the most advance combat machine the AC has been able to produce. It’s basically Aleister’s secret. Some of the things it can do are the following:

(The A.A.A. is a weapon in the form of a backpack which can transform. The combat speed of the AAA is Mach 6. It can travel faster than that in a straight line and allows her to get anywhere on Earth in some minutes, it has a massive array of weapons all of which are at least city level and all those weapons are neatly packed inside the backpack which is light enough that she can carry them (the entire AAA is that backpack) easily on her back, it protects the user from G-force, kinetic energy, explosions and other kinds of damage. It can transform into any kind of machine or vehicle regardless of size, from something as small as a normal bike to a plane, it has very advance AI which can predict what its user wants and respond to that instantly, it can be remotely controlled and probably do more things which I am not remembering right now). For more details on the A.A.A. check Mikoto’s or its own page.

In any case, she almost immediately understood how to both pilot and use the machine effectively. Also, a short period of time after acquiring the A.A.A. it got destroyed. Mikoto managed to reverse-engineer and build her own version of the A.A.A. just from the things she memorized and her own engineering ingenuity and she didn’t have access to any high level lab or factory either. In my opinion this is an insanely impressive feat too, especially considering how complex and advance the A.A.A. was.

Source: https://pastebin.com/tf9bStjd

Mikoto also is no stranger to applying complex scientific laws and theories to her ability and gaining new applications for it in the process. As a matter of fact, the first time she used her railgun was one such instance. She first developed her railgun by thinking about applying Lorentz force and Flemming’s left hand rule to her electromagnetism, creating two imaginary rail lines to propel projectiles with them and she needed to make all the calculations in her mind for it right (that’s mentioned in the source below too). That shows a deep understanding of scientific laws and how to apply them in real life, applying them to her ability is even more impressive.

Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/DRzId36

Additionally she is very knowledgeable and proficient in multiple scientific fields like physics, mathematics and engineering as was demonstrated in the post already and she is also very knowledgeable in many, many, many different and unrelated things, like a living encyclopedia and the curriculum for her is the most advance one in AC, far surpassing that of other schools and as a level 5 she is a straight A student without effort even with a curriculum like that.

Aside from all of this, her combat intelligence should 100% be improved. One of her most famous and loved traits is that she is a very smart fighter who often employs strategies and finds her way out of tough, high pressure situations. There are many examples for this and I can’t possibly link them all (and this post is already too long) but I will mention a few and call it a day. Most of you here know how that she’s a very smart combatant and definitely above “gifted” in combat intelligence anyways.

You already know about her fight with Brunhild. Not only does Brunhild have insane physical strength and stats but she also has ridiculous speed (relativistic+ very probably). Being so fast that Mikoto wasn’t able to see her movements with her eyes and not wanting to solely rely on her radar Mikoto pulled iron sand out of the ground and spread it around the battlefield to be able to “feel” Brunhild’s steps so that she could predict Brunhild’s movements and she thought of multiple creative ways of how to defend from her attacks.

Source: https://imgur.com/a/SO3Hyat

She also outsmarted an intelligent and proficient Academy City scientist by pretending to be defeated by her and luring her to get close for a KO.

Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/AUB0xxD

Even when she was under an enormous amount of stress and pressure she still very quickly devised a smart plan on how to disperse Accelerator’s newly created plasma ball and nullify it. That was the key piece to defeating Accelerator.

Source:

She devised a plan on how to overcome Mugino (another level 5 esper) even when she was so exhausted, injured and hungry that she was on the verge of passing out.

Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/7k0ZJEj

When she was fighting another strong esper who had devised a plan to beat her by reflecting back her own Railgun (Mikoto didn’t know that) she was smart and quick enough that she was able to figure out what the opponent was planning in the split second just before she fired her Railgun, reducing its power so that the explosion was small enough that she was able to dodge it.

Source: https://imgur.com/gallery/2G25Z9X

There are many more instances. Railgun SS1 and 2 and the manga are full of them. She was very smart during the High Priest fight too. I can’t list it all here (and the instances are long, split and hard to put in quotes) but in any case, most people who have read these will easily attest to her combat intelligence in these instances and agree that she is a very smart fighter.

This post took a huge amount of effort and time to make (it’s my first time doing something like this) so I hope it won’t be for nothing. In any case I hope you liked reading all of this and potentially maybe getting to know something about Mikoto which you didn’t know before. Thank you so much for taking your time to read all this and see you all some other time. If you could vote whether you agree or disagree with my proposition I would be very grateful. Thank you all and have a good day!

I think her profile already does a great job referencing her feats; it's the ratings that must be changed. I do agree with the ratings you gave.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this and giving your input. I really appreciate it!

Combat intelligence = Genius
As a note (I haven't read this all yet), and recent staff RT has removed Combat Intelligence as a rating. We'd just list stuff she'd been shown to do that's skillful rather than saying "Genius" or something along those lines.

But will the section “combat intelligence” still remain on her page or will it get removed entirely? I am not a fan of it in the first place so it will be perfectly fine with me if it gets removed but if it remains it would be really bad and inaccurate if it stays at “gifted”.

It would remain as it currently is, but just briefly lost some impressive combat stuff she's done

But I don’t get it, why shouldn’t it be changed to “Genius” then? Cuz if it’s getting removed while should it remain? Why not just remove it and keep the other two? Cuz people will still enter her page and they will see “Gifted” combat intelligence and assume that she isn’t a particularly bright fighter (other less intelligent fighters have a higher rating). Shouldn’t we correct stuff which could mislead people who enter her page without knowing all this? If it’s possible I would still change it. Just in case. It’s up to you though, of course.

Ah did you perhaps mean the different ratings like “Gifted, Genius, Extraordinary Genius” will get removed from the combat intelligence section and just the feats will remain? If that’s so then that’s perfectly fine. I am all for it.

Here's the current draft section for it
These factors can also influence a character's general intelligence rating. For example, skills like strategy, rapid learning or the ability to predict an opponent's moves could contribute to a high intelligence rating. However, for many characters, it's useful to separate combat skill from general intelligence. This distinction is particularly important when a character is highly skilled in combat but lacks academic or intellectual prowess.
Unlike general intelligence, combat skill is not ranked on a scale with labels like "Genius" or "Supergenius." Due to the many factors involved, a simple rating system would fail to accurately capture a character's combat proficiency. For instance, it wouldn’t make sense to say someone who can learn any real-world martial art by watching it for a minute is necessarily superior to someone who has mastered a single martial art to a superhuman level. These are different types of skill that can’t be easily compared.
Using one-word ratings for combat skill could lead to misunderstandings, as a higher rating wouldn’t always mean that a character is objectively more skilled than someone with a lower rating. To avoid this confusion and better represent a character's abilities, we omit such ratings.
Instead, if a character profile includes a section on combat skill, it should only feature specific feats or statements that demonstrate their proficiency. This approach allows readers to directly compare characters based on their actual achievements.

If your thread doesn't get any activity for over 24 hours, you can bump it like so.
The mods literally told me to post a CRT with all the sources and quotes and it took a ton of work and time to do so and now most are quiet for whatever reason? What?

Also, the intelligence rating of this character will remain two tiers below what it rightfully should be because either people are inactive or too lazy to do anything about it? I literally made it as easily as possible for them.

Raildex just isn't a super popular verse Mod wise and is complex subject to approach. I'll comment when I get done with work and college stuff, but you'll have to ask other mods directly to comment to get a response. Just waiting won't get you anywhere.

This is a good idea. I thought about directly messaging the few mods that replied to my original post but was unsure if it would be ok, I will do just that. Thanks for the advice!
