Welcome to Round 2 of the 8-A U.A. Sports Festival Tournament!

VS Thread

  • Fights will take place within the Fighting Tournament Ring with a full stadium.
  • Speed is equalized.
  • Competitors are informed of the rules and that they're in a nationally televised competition.
    • Competitors will act in character with this knowledge (I.E a Competitor that doesn't care about winning and fame, not fighting as hard as they normally would, or a Competitor that would kill the opponent despite knowing the rules).
  • The conditions for winning a match are: knocking out the opponent, rendering them unable to move, or getting them to step out of bounds/surrender.
    • Another wincon is if a competitor does something that would get them "disqualified' in-universe, that would also count as a win for the opponent (I.E, if Character A kills Character B, that would count as a win for Character B in a VS Thread)
  • Killing the opponent/overbrutalizing them, harming or attacking the audience intentionally or unintentionally, or bringing in outside help, will result in an in-universe disqualification.

Tournament Thread Rules:

  • If a character gets no arguments for around 3-4 days, the opposing competitor will automatically go to the next round.
  • If a thread gets no votes or the votes are tied for 3-4 days, I will decide who I think advances based on the arguments given.
    • If a character I submitted is involved, however, I will coin-flip instead to prevent any bias on my part.

With Luffy's LS advantage and the amount that he abuses it in this key, it's very likely that a ringout would occur fairly quickly

Yeah there's not a lot Cuphead can really do. Luffy doesn't kill or really maim so...

Tbf Cuphead can slip out of a grab with Smoke Bomb's teleportation, and he might be hard to grab in the first place considering he's 91 cm and likes to keep his range.

Smoke Bomb’s teleportation could be useful at first, but Luffy is highly adept at adapting to and predicting movement-based techniques. Because of this, I have little doubt that he would eventually manage to get his hands on Cuphead.

As for Cuphead’s size and ability to keep distance, Luffy can leverage his range effectively. He also grew up in a jungle, where he regularly had to chase both large and small animals, so neither of those factors would pose a serious problem for him.

Okay, to start off here, Luffy has the AP and LS over Cuphead here, which won’t be anything new towards Cuphead since he’s used to enemies being bigger and stronger within his own game, so that part wouldn’t surprise Cuphead at all.

Now, the main problem, I dunno too much about One Piece so I may need a second opinion here, but if Luffy’s Attack Reflection has feats of working against magical energy projectiles, then yeah that’s game set and match. Theres quite literally NOTHING Cuphead can do.

Now, IF Luffy’s Gum Gum Balloon doesn’t work against his projectiles, then that gives Cuphead a little more of a chance.

As shown above, Luffy’s first problem would be catching Cuphead, which the Smoke Bomb granted from the Divine Relic would make it hard at first, and while Luffy himself is good at adapting to movement techniques, Cuphead is ALSO mainly known for his skill when it comes to dodging and avoiding insane Danmaku, with projectiles coming at him from all sides. He’s also got experience dodging said Danmaku on a small and limited platform. So even if Luffy got him into a tight spot, he’d have some experience on what to do. While I’m not denying that Luffy COULD catch him eventually especially with how he can adapt to movement techniques, it’d definitely take a little bit.

And even IF Luffy eventually did end up catching him, Cuphead’s Invincibility Super Art would render him intangible, and he’d slip right out of Luffy’s grasp and force him to do it all over again. Not to mention the fact because the Divine Relic gives Cuphead a buffed version of the Coffee Charm, he’d be able to keep using said Super more than usual, and he COULD force Luffy into a loop all while Cuphead is slowly plinking away at him with his projectiles. The Whetstone he also gets from the Divine Relic would also let Cuphead Parry Slap Luffy’s arms/hands if given the chance, giving Cuphead a little more mobility against Luffy while also simultaneously hurting him.

Cuphead’s Spreadshot also being both his best DPS and essentially impossible to dodge at point blank range (being a huge cone of constant projectile spam) means that he could also do some good damage to Luffy while he tries catching Cuphead, and if needed, Cuphead also has options that surround his entire body with projectiles, like Chaos Orbit and the Eight Way.

Edit:

I had seen in one of the other matchups that Speed is equalized between the two, and if that’s the case Luffy would be dealing with projectiles around 4.46x his own speed, unless I’m mistaken and Cuphead’s projectiles ALONG with his own physical speed is equalized too.

Not too sure what the projectiles being magical or not have to do with Luffy's ability to deflect them. They're weaker than he is and are physically tangible, so if they hit Luffy they will simply bounce back instead of hurting him.

None of those videos show anything particularly impressive in terms of dodging. At least not anything that would change any of the arguments made so far. Luffy himself is very agile and has keep up with people just as good, if not better acrobatics than himself thanks to the mobility granted from his devil fruit.

Cuphead's invincibility, while nearly spammable, is not a passive effect. All it takes for Luffy is one good hit or throw, which really takes no time at all. Especially since his speed is amped by the elasticity granted by his rubber body.

I'm unsure how effective that would be given Luffy is immune to those type of attacks if his opponent can't exceed his LS.

Unfortunately, the speed of projectiles won't matter because even when doing nothing at all, Luffy's body would automatically reflect them.

This is a pretty bad matchup for Cuphead. My vote goes to Luffy.

If that first arguments the case then yeah, Cuphead just gets stomped horribly, there’s quite literally NOTHING he can do here. 💔

Luffy fra it seems, cuphead is getting sucked

Luffy socks Cuphead FRA
EDIT: OP should be able to vote such an unanimous win
Counted, I'll vote as well to get this to 7 votes so we can get to grace.

I don't think any one has any more arguments for Cuphead, so Luffy moves on!
