You’ve gotta be ******* kidding me-

Okay, so to get the obvious out of the way, yes, Sword Guy has a nearly 15x advantage in AP, and over a 100x advantage in LS. He also COULD be comparable in actual experience/skill? And he’s got the willpower stuff that’d let him transform into his second key, which for obvious reasons probably isn’t something he could utilize here.

Other than that though, Shovel’s got every possible advantage ever, he’s much more versatile, he has way better evasive options, he’s smarter, has better survivability, he’s more agile and acrobatic, and has experience fighting those who outscale him (lore wise). He has Intangibility with the Shadow Locket, Invisibility with the Phase Locket and he can fly with the Propeller Dagger, just to name a few of his evasive options.

The best I can do is that Shovel could constantly whittle Sword Guy down with damage, while not letting him get a single hit in on Shovel at all, his Toon Force has saved him from stuff like getting an arrow lodged straight into his forehead, so he has leeway to mess up like, once or twice.

Okay, so like Shovel Knight has the advantage in basically everything... except for the 15x AP advantage in favor of his opponent, which renders anything he could possible throw at Sword Guy moot as he gets one-shotted twice (well, nearly twice but still). I think it's pretty clear who wins here...

I mean, there is still the problem of actually CATCHING Shovel, which seems nigh-impossible given Shovel’s advantages

Shovel ain't infallible tho, in every single one of his fights he's taken more than a few hits, he just always shrugs them off.

Also he loves blocking attacks with his shovel, and well

Sword Guy Man would have a hard time hitting Shivel Knight more than once… fortunately, he only needs to do so once.

The reason I’m so certain on him being able to get that one hit in is because of the sword teleportation. Shovel wouldn’t be able to predict it because it’s not an ability you’d just expect people to have and Sword has been shown to use it to surprise attack people by virtue of teleporting behind them and stabbing them before they could react. SGM can feign being disarmed or just throw his sword behind Shovel and poof right to it. And, if Sword is actually disarmed despite the LS gap, he can just teleport his sword to himself.

Voting Sword.

And that would be fair, had everyone in Indie Cross not been comparable or superior in skill compared to SK, OR they have the actual abilities to make up for said skill gap, like in his fight against the Drone.

Here, while SK’s opponent has trained since birth, they aren’t even two years old, while Shovel’s been alive and training for MUCH longer.

Shovel Knight has overwhelmed teleportation spam in the past, so unironically it’d be something he’s familiar with. Plus I’d say two hits would do it because his Toon Force would likely save him from the first hit, and thus make him realize he needs to lock in.

While Shovel Knight could be able to overwhelm SGM the moment he learns of the teleportation, he would still need to learn that he has it unless he went into every fight assuming his opponent had every ability ever until they directly show that they don’t have them.

I will give you the toon force thing, though. However, then the question becomes “can Shovel Knight play keep away for long enough that he can whittle down someone who’s barely taking damage from his attacks while dodging 99% of their attacks?”
I’d say that’s a tall order for anyone, even someone as skilled and with such diverse abilities as Shovel Knight

I’ll give you that, but upon actually seeing it in motion, it wouldn’t be hard for SK to adapt to it considering he’s dealt with someone who spams it in character.

Also, I was also mentioning the teleportation thing from earlier to also argue that Shovel Knight wouldn’t be blindsided by it, because he’s dealt with a version that’s arguably worse to deal with.

Even if SGM catches Shovel off guard, his Toon Force would save him, and let him get a better understanding on how the teleportation works.

It is until you take into consideration the VERY notable skill gap between these two + the fact that Shovel can use abilities like the Shadow or Phase Locket back to back, Shovel’s going to be constantly flipping, spinning, rolling and twirling all around Sword Guy Man, all the while the latter is going to be struggling heavily to catch up. He can also spin/twirl around mid air, making him even HARDER to tag.

Added with the fact that SGM’s main shtick is something he has experience with, and I doubt he’s going to land more than one hit before Shovel whittles him down.

Honestly, I still can't really see Shovel Knight harming or even whittling down his opponent given how tough they are. It essentially requires Shovel Knight to play perfectly and avoid any attacks thrown at him while also dealing negligible damage back (given the lack of dura neg), basically delaying the inevitable until he runs out of mana or items.

The argument for SK could be reasonable if the gap was like 4x or 5x but nearly 15x gap just can't be dealt with without dura-neg options

I knew I should’ve submitted PCX 🫩

Stomped first match yet again, guess I gotta concede.

It's double elimination so the journey is not over for him yet

We'll see how he journeys in the losers bracket

Both of my first matches with my 2 characters were stomps, just on different sides 😞 hopefully there’s less AP stomps later on in the tournament so there’s good debate
