Valhalla's Champions: A Stat-Equal Tiersetter Tournament (12/16)

Welcome, one and all, to the next tournament I have started!

After going through God Of War: Ragnarok and the Valhalla DLC, I had the amazing impulse to make a tournament based on the events of the DLC. Unlike my last tournament, I will not abandon this one, hopefully.

Ritual Of Selection

Instead of giving stat ranges, arbitrarily listing hax that isn't allowed, or trying to eyeball which profiles to disqualify, matches are made fair by listing a character which each submission has to have a chance of losing to. If a character is initially argued as risking a loss to the tiersetter, but is later reasoned to be stronger in a way that'd have them consistently beat the tiersetter, they will be disqualified from the tournament.
In this case, the beloved Týr will be our tiersetter for this tournament.

How does he fight?
Týr is a master-of-arms, who is capable of using 4 weapons interchangeably in combat. These include:

  • A spear and shield, which he uses to pierce through his opponents and guard their attacks. He'll also typically imbue his energy into his spear to create shockwaves or wall his opponents off and damage them.
  • A Macuahuitl, which he usually swings wide and big against his opponents. He can also utilise fire by igniting his weapon and slamming it down to create exploding shockwaves, where fireballs will spew out of the attack as a result. Blood orbs can also be summoned to surround himself by sacrificing some of his blood to the blade.
  • Dual Khopesh Blades, used for overwhelming opponents with a flurry of slashes. Energy can also be imbued to boost damage.
  • A Katana, used similarly to his Khopesh Blades, only difference is that he imbues his slashes with ice and shoots out ice projectiles.
In addition, he's known to grab opponents mid-combo, invoke Bifrost into his enemies with his eyes, turn the battlefield dark with only a small area of light given, create illusory clones of himself, summon monsters from Valhalla itself to heal from his injuries, but not before teleporting up the arena to safely do this, and shoot projectiles. It might not be much, but this moveset is enough for him to go toe-to-toe with the powerhouse that is Kratos.

Criteria

Your selected character will be matched against Týr in a stat-equal match (so don't be afraid of his big ass stats). The criteria where your selected character will be accepted, among others not concerning the tiersetter is:
  • Your character should not stomp or be stomped by Týr under any circumstances
  • Your character must have at least a small chance of losing to Týr under Standard Battle Assumptions (SBA) (Minimum 5% chance of losing to him btw)
  • The chance of losing must be legitimate; this would include valid wincons outlined (death, incapacitation), and should not be reliant on obscure interpretations or random mechanics (e.g., coin flips, wildly variable probability effects)
  • Your character must be permitted by le Versus Thread Rules.
  • Your character should not be undergoing revisions or soon to be revised in a CRT, as that makes debating a doozy in general
  • Priority will be given to characters from differing users and verses to promote variety in participants
  • Maximum one submission per user. Backups are not subject to this rule, but selection is.
  • Only 16 characters that fit the criteria are chosen. Any further submissions will be backup instead (unless requested to be placed in backup while 16 slots aren't filled yet).
  • Characters who have died and resurrected at least once are considered. Anyone not fitting these criterias below in addition to the ones above are shown the door out.
    • Examples include Kratos himself, who has died multiple times in his story, or any characters resurrected by the Dragon Balls
    • Characters who have reincarnated into another character entirely do not count, even if said character retains their original memories. Characters who were also isekaied into another character do not count.
    • Special mention goes to characters like Subaru, who does not fit the criteria since he technically returns to a point before he died (unless y'all argue about it or something)
    • EDIT: If your submission is canonically dead in the story and remains dead (not revived, resurrected, what have you), it doesn't count

Match Information

Note: The information disclosed also applies to the initial tiersetter match against Týr.
Arena

  • The Olympus Section Of Valhalla, particularly the arena where you face Týr in the game.
1000

  • Starting Distance will be around where Kratos and Týr are situated.
  • The arena is spacious enough for a good amount of manoeuvrability, but due to its openness, stealth tactics don't work as much.
  • The arena is technically roofless, but a height limit is implemented to encourage fair and honourable combat, which will be around the height of the door. For perspective, Týr has to put some effort to jumping to that door, despite his height. So there is still ample room to fly while not having it be overwhelmingly advantageous for the character with flight and some ranged weaponry to cheese the fights.
  • The arena will be impervious to any battle damage (directed, environmental, or anything else), and won't allow any combatants to be out of bounds, sending them back to the arena should that happen for any reason.
Match Conditions
  • The character's stats, other than range, stamina, and intelligence, will be set to the strongest character in the bracket. Summons that outstat their owners are now considered in the equalisation to promote fair combat
  • Matches will use SBA unless specified otherwise.
  • All stat amps will be limited to a maximum multiplier of 3x. (i.e If Goku went SSJ he'd only be 3x stronger instead of 50x)
  • All characters will be able to perceive, interact with and damage one another naturally (i.e Cursed Spirits can now be seen and damaged normally)
  • Wincon is via incapacitation or death
  • For additional interesting factor, every hax that can be layered are now baseline, including resistances
  • Every source of healing or regeneration is limited to a maximum limit of High-Low
  • Characters with combat-applicable Resurrection can only resurrect once
  • Rules are subject to changes on a per-match basis to make them fairer or more interesting
  • Combatants are allowed to magically view the other previous matches in-universe, except for the initial tiersetter match (hence, this only becomes effective from the quarter-finals onwards)
Match Rules
  • 2 days are given to both participating users to debate. Regardless of circumstances, I will decree the outcome of the match after the 2 days for the sake of the tourney's pacing.
    • An exception can be made should the participating user notify everyone in this thread that they'd be inactive for a bit or some other situation. A further 1 day will be given for such exception
    • If you no longer have any reason or motivation to continue participating in this tournament, notify in the thread to have your combatant removed (and depending on the tourney time, a replacement can be issued)
  • Unlike regular vsbw matches, grace starts by 4 votes, with a maximum of 2 votes difference still considered as grace (i.e 4-2-0 counts for grace, while 4-3-0 does not. 7-5-0 counts, while 5-6-0 does not)
  • Inconclusive matches are also subject to the above rule, but I will issue a coin flip to decide who advances (unless the votes have a 2 vote difference, at which it is completely subject to the first rule instead)

Right out the gates, and I realised I said "small chance of losing to him". Darn.
I wouldn't necessarily say Týr getting a hit on him means that he can defeat him (no matter the slim chances). I'd say if he can defeat Oh Long Johnson here by about 5% of the time, Settra will be in.

In a slugging match, Týr has better versatility than man with sword, so yeah he beats Settra stat equal like 5% of the time. He can dodge the scarabs too.

AFAIK, if you're talking about the soul magic, I think it's more what the magic represents, rather than some hax that Tyr can use like that (someone who powerscales GOW can correct me on that)

Its all very combat applicable, not just for show. Souls are made up of all those components.

Doesn't like Norse stuff become baseline in the hax chain?
Do note that the Norse and Greek sections are independent of each other and have their own starting points as far as the layers go.

I did, I saw layers thrown around, so had to bring it up. Thanks for reminding me.
Still unsure about Acheron

All characters in God of War can both use those abilities offensively and do so inherently.

Tyr also resists all applications of Seidr, Bifrost and divine Soul Magic.

Since layers do not matter here, then barring like, Plot Manipulation, he has very few abilities that would be an issue for him.

So would this mean someone like Acheron can evenly match Tyr to be added into the bracket?
Just fresh out the ass in terms of GoW powerscaling

Kratos has 5 layers at that time, Tyr has 7 now.

Tyr was giving Valhalla Kratos hard fight, Tyr is like top 3 norse god. He has all relevant stuff relative to Kratos.
Tyr is currently the most powerful Norse God. Though, funnily enough, Freya would dominate here, given her sheer breadth of means.

Went through her profile, and Tyr resists everything she has bar maybe Law Manipulation. She can be matched to Tyr just fine.

Welp, other possible submissions have a lot of work cut out for them.
By the by, is it ok if I ask help from you and/or any other GoW supporter for the screening process? It's fine if you're busy/not interested, but it's worth asking.

Sure. Just ping here, and I'll comment if I have time.

Maybe 😭

Is the CM stuff layered for GoW?? Damn this might not work after all

God Ki, Power of Destruction, Limited Negative Energy/Limited Dark Ki, and Time Power.
Anything in there that Tyr doesn't resist? On a skim, I can't see anything aside from Law hax that might be an issue.

All layers are flattened to baseline. Else Tyr would have 7 layers of resistance.

From what I can tell, maybe a few things like Corruption and BFR? I might be missing some resistances he has tho.

He resists corruption. BFR depends but it's pretty clear he can fight Future Warrior on even grounds.

Man, if only i had finish Earth-12041 Ultron Profile.... huh

Put Dark surfer as my character, Tyr should take a few attacks, the spatiotemporal cuts, time stop and the EE are resistent as well as Ice and fire attack

Surfer could potentially atomized him or create a black hole to kill him, but it depend on his mood as well Tyr only need to give a direct hit with Soul break

This fight really depend on how Surfer starts, Dark surfer against people he seems as problems he use EE but tyr resist his basic EE, Surfer still have his Temporal EE, Telekinesis or blast him into space or BFR him out of the universe/to the big bang or just throw him

This fight become in "how far Tyr can reach him before surfer just flight around and find the right hax to kill/incap him"

Tyr only needed to touch him once, but Surfer have 2 different precogs and cosmic awareness that could say to him to not overconfient against him but this isn’t like "you have to do X things' they are more like Spider sense, screaming to him there is danger coming or if someone try to time travel to his past

I have no idea if Surfer attack reflection could work in his magic
