Currently, the Emotional Spectrum is absent from the accepted DC cosmology page despite being consistently portrayed as a fundamental metaphysical/cosmological force tied to emotion, existence, creation, the Source Wall, and the underlying structure of reality.
The proposal is that the Emotional Spectrum should be indexed as a 1-A cosmological structure/force.
The Emotional Spectrum is identified as one of DC’s fundamental positive cosmological forces.
In Justice League #30, Starman explains the major forces that operate in harmony across the universe/multiverse. The Emotional Spectrum is listed alongside the Speed Force, Life Force, Sphere of the Gods, Collective Unconscious and Dimensional Superstructure, with the Emotional Spectrum being the force that gives the universe feeling.
In Dark Nights: Death Metal #1, Wally West further explains that positive energies such as the Speed Force, Emotional Spectrum and Forces of Justice are connective in nature.
This is not the main proof for the 1-A rating by itself. Rather, it establishes the Emotional Spectrum’s cosmological placement. The direct evidence for its rating comes from the later sections showing its reservoir sustaining reality, fueling creation, being connected to the Source Wall/Source framework, and affecting the structure/codes of reality.
Emotional Spectrum: 1-A
The Emotional Spectrum is not merely a universal energy field or a power source for Lantern rings. It is a metaphysical reservoir/font from which emotion flows into creation, tied to the energy that fuels creation and connected to the Source Wall/Source framework.
Its depletion caused the collapse of Relic’s previous universe/reality, its restoration required the Emotional Entities to return to the reservoir, and later stories again show the removal of emotion from the universe through the Emotional Spectrum.
More importantly, this is not just a quantitative universal feat. The Emotional Spectrum is portrayed as one of the fundamental underlying forces of existence, governing emotion as a basic metaphysical aspect of creation. This places it in the same broad category as other DC cosmological forces/structures that are treated as beyond ordinary material reality.
Green Lantern #23.1 — Relic’s Previous Universe Collapsed Due to the Depletion of the Emotional Spectrum
This energy was not treated as ordinary fuel or a simple technological power source. It was tied to existence itself. The Lightsmiths overused the Emotional Spectrum, draining the reservoir of emotional light. As the reservoir was depleted, the universe entered its final stage of collapse.
The key point is that the Emotional Spectrum was not merely something existing inside that universe. Its reservoir functioned as a sustaining source for reality/existence, and its exhaustion led to the death/collapse of that universe.
This establishes the Emotional Spectrum as a cosmological sustaining force rather than a regular energy system.
The reservoir is described as the font/source from which emotion flows throughout the universe. It is also tied to the energy that fuels creation. This is why the Emotional Entities had to return to the reservoir in order to restore/replenish it.
Relic also explains that all of his searches for the reservoir led to the Source Wall, and that he needed to go beyond/pass through it in order to reach it.
This is one of the most important pieces of evidence.
The Emotional Spectrum is not just an energy used by Lanterns. It is the metaphysical source of emotion flowing through creation, and its reservoir is tied to the Source Wall and the energy that fuels creation itself.
In Green Lantern: New Guardians Annual #2, after the Emotional Entities are taken to refill the reservoir, Kyle describes what he witnessed.
He explains that the Entities were taken to refill the reservoir, and then describes witnessing the Source, the instructions that shape the universe, and the operation codes of reality.
This reinforces the interpretation that the Emotional Spectrum’s reservoir is not a normal physical location or ordinary energy container. It is connected to the Source Wall/Source framework and to the underlying structure through which reality is shaped.
This directly supports treating the Emotional Spectrum as a metaphysical cosmological structure rather than a mere universal energy source.
In Godhead, Highfather studies the Source Wall and learns of the Lanterns’ connection to it.
His plan requires obtaining one ring from each color of the Emotional Spectrum. The complete Emotional Spectrum is treated as cosmologically relevant to accessing/dealing with the Source Wall and secrets of cosmic importance.
This does not stand as the main proof by itself. However, it strongly supports the previous evidence by showing that the full Emotional Spectrum has relevance beyond Lantern combat and is treated as important in Source Wall-related cosmology.
The 2025 Starbreaker arc gives a modern example of the Emotional Spectrum functioning as a universal/cosmological system.
The Starbreaker Corps/Sun-Eaters siphon emotion from the universe. This is not portrayed as ordinary mind manipulation on individual beings. The universe itself is shown without emotion, with living beings losing fear, grief, panic, remorse and other emotional responses.
The story directly ties this phenomenon to the Emotional Spectrum, the Emotional Entities and the Source Wall. Kyle explains that the connection to the Emotional Spectrum has been broken, and that the Entities are involved from beyond the Source Wall.
Green Lantern #26 further states that all emotion in the universe was siphoned to empower the Starbreaker forces, and Starbreaker himself states that they hold the emotion of the universe.
This provides modern consistency for the same concept established in Lights Out: the Emotional Spectrum is the fundamental system through which emotion exists and flows on a cosmic scale. Disrupting it can affect emotion throughout the universe.
This is not the main basis for the 1-A rating. Rather, it shows how disrupting the Emotional Spectrum’s metaphysical function manifests across the universe by removing emotion from living beings on a universal scale.
The Emotional Spectrum has direct cosmological evidence of its own:
Its reservoir sustained Relic’s previous universe/reality.The overuse and depletion of that reservoir caused the collapse/death of that universe/reality.The reservoir is described as the font/source from which emotion flows through the universe. The reservoir is tied to the energy that fuels creation.Restoring the reservoir required the Emotional Entities.Relic’s search for the reservoir led to the Source Wall.New Guardians Annual #2 connects the reservoir to the Source, the instructions that shape the universe, and the operation codes of reality.Godhead treats the complete Emotional Spectrum as relevant to Source Wall-related cosmological objectives. The Starbreaker arc again shows the Emotional Spectrum being manipulated on a universal scale, with all emotion in the universe being siphoned and later restored.
The important part is that the Emotional Spectrum’s rating should not be based only on the collapse of a universe or the draining of all emotion in the universe. Those feats establish its cosmological scale, but the 1-A rating comes from its nature and placement.
The Emotional Spectrum is a fundamental metaphysical force/font tied to creation, emotion, existence, the Source Wall and the structure/codes of reality. It governs emotion as a basic aspect of creation rather than simply existing as a finite physical energy supply inside space-time.
This makes it comparable in nature to other DC cosmological forces/structures that are treated as metaphysical and beyond ordinary material reality.
The reason for 1-A is the nature and placement of the full Emotional Spectrum/reservoir.
The reservoir is treated as the metaphysical font from which emotion flows into creation, is connected to the energy that fuels creation, and is repeatedly tied to the Source Wall/Source framework. New Guardians Annual #2 further connects this event to the Source, the instructions that shape the universe, and the operation codes of reality.
Therefore, the full Emotional Spectrum is not merely a physical energy field contained within space-time. It is an underlying metaphysical force governing emotion as a fundamental aspect of creation and reality’s structure.
Its depletion does not simply cause a large destructive event. It removes or exhausts one of the sustaining metaphysical aspects of creation, causing reality to collapse.
Because of this, the full Emotional Spectrum should be treated as a 1-A cosmological structure/force.
This CRT does not argue that every Lantern scales to the full Emotional Spectrum. Ordinary Lanterns only channel limited portions of the Emotional Spectrum through rings, batteries, entities, or external amps.Scaling to the full Emotional Spectrum should require directly affecting, controlling, embodying, draining, restoring, destroying, destabilizing, or otherwise interacting with the full structure/reservoir of the Emotional Spectrum.
Emotional Spectrum — 1-A
The Emotional Spectrum is a fundamental metaphysical/cosmological force tied to emotion, existence, creation, the Emotional Entities, the Source Wall and the Source framework. Its reservoir is the font from which emotion flows through creation and is connected to the energy that fuels creation.
In Relic’s previous reality, the overuse and depletion of the Emotional Spectrum’s reservoir caused the collapse/death of that reality. In Lights Out, restoring the reservoir required the Emotional Entities, and Relic’s search for it led to the Source Wall. In Green Lantern: New Guardians Annual #2, the reservoir is further connected to the Source, the instructions that shape the universe and the operation codes of reality.
Due to being an underlying metaphysical force governing emotion and creation rather than a simple physical energy source, the full Emotional Spectrum should be rated as 1-A.
This CRT proposes 1-A as the direct rating for the Emotional Spectrum based on the evidence presented above.
However, this should not be taken as a hard cap for the structure. Since the Emotional Spectrum is repeatedly tied to the Source Wall/Source framework, the underlying codes/instructions of reality, and DC’s broader system of fundamental metaphysical forces, a rating above 1-A can also be discussed if the evidence is considered sufficient.
The main purpose of this CRT is to establish that the Emotional Spectrum should be indexed as a Tier 1 cosmological structure/force, with 1-A being the primary proposed rating.
