Spongebob Squarepants Discussion Thread

Personally for a series, I think gathering every anti-feat while looking for feats is the best way to go. That way you can determine what is most consistent, what is PIS, what is an outlier (outliers can be anti feats too), etc. It's just better to cover every base. That goes for every stat. AP, LS, Speed, etc.

Hello, friends.

I am in the process of workshopping a potentially controversial change to the way we index inconsistent characters like those is cartoons.

Right now SpongeBob is 4-A, and many people find that to be maybe rightfully ridiculous. Many people think he should be 10-C, because that's how he's most often portrayed in the show, being inferior to normal humans, in danger by everyday objects, etc. Others argue that he has clear feats placing him far above that.

What if we did not have to choose between these two extremes, and what if we could give some credit to both of these logical interpretations?

Would you all support a hypothetical where he could be given two ratings, something like:
"Typically 10-C, Potentially 4-A..."

I would love to hear your thoughts in general.

Funnily enough, when I was looking at what you said in the Low-tier Marvel speed thread, my mind instantly went to SpongeBob when thinking of characters with MASSIVELY inconsistent stats without an in-universe explanation for it. Like, one episode, SpongeBob can struggle to lift a glass of water, but another episode he unravels the f*cking universe, he’d absolutely benefit from your proposal.

That said, I think 10-C is still too low as pretty much all the major anti-feats are one-off gags that aren’t meant to be taken seriously, especially when they’re contradicted every other episode. I’d much prefer tier 9 or 8 for SpongeBob’s base, as there’s a decent amount of feats in that range that are pretty consistent. Also, the 4-A stuff was actually deemed unusable in a CRT awhile ago due to all the feats not scaling to physicals, so it’d be more like upper tier 5 at peak, since there’s a lot of stuff in that range to use

That is fine, I do not know the specifics.

But you are saying that you would generally support having one rating representing a very conservative 'typical' power level for SpongeBob, and another separate one that includes all of his much higher feats?

It should be add outdated in Spongebob verse profiles
