Component-Based Magic

How should component-based magic be represented on a character profile? Specifically, how do we distinguish between components that are assumed to be readily available and those that must be explicitly listed, especially in situations where the line is blurred? Do individual spell components belong under Standard Equipment or Optional Equipment, or only exceptional components? And should component dependence itself be listed under Weaknesses?

The magic and its effects/abilities should be listed under Preparation.
So do we assume they do not carry any components on them by default, since it requires preparation, or does it require context whether they always have it on their person or not? And since it counts as preparation, can we pick before a VS thread what specifically they have prepared?

If the character typically carries certain components, those components can be listed under Standard Equipment. As long as the magic does not require preparation time and the character already has the necessary components, it can be listed as a normal ability.

If the magic requires time to prepare, it should still be listed under Preparation, even when the necessary components are part of the character’s Standard Equipment.

If the character is shown having to retrieve, mine, or otherwise obtain the components, those components should not be listed under Standard Equipment, but rather Optional Equipment. However, the magic may still be listed under Preparation.

Characters may be given preparation time in versus threads, but the amount of time should be clearly specified. It should be equivalent to the amount of time the character needed in their own universe to obtain the necessary components and prepare the specific magic being used.

Once the components are gathered, the magic can be carried out instantly. It's like crushing a firefly and using it to shoot fire type shi

Sorry for all the questions. Last question, I promise. Some spells require highly specific material components, for example, rare mushrooms that only grow in certain locations and don't even have an in-universe name. If I list every such component in the optional equipment section, it quickly becomes bloated with a long list of niche, seemingly random objects. How would you recommend I index these requirements?

Put the optional equipment in a scrollable tabber.
