I am not sure, Adam does not start with his beams most of the time if he sees Shadow as a Sinner but he is completely fine spamming them the MOMENT he sees something that may be dangerous.

For his range Adam can do this type of stuff

Paramount Shadow mainly leads with CQC. He is shown to be proficient in doing so when he bullied the everliving shit out of Knuckles and then proceeds to just shit on tails and knuckles AGAIN before they could react and then proceeds to shit on sonic as well.
Now if he REALLY want to try, he can try to spin dash towards Adam.
His AP scaling is ridiculously stupid. This the same guy who literally knocked Super Sonic out of his form before he could react.
He abuses the SHIT out of TP strikes so yeah.
