Books vs Web-sited

Ok so this is something that's been bothering me alot, which is more reliable? A book published by the company or a website that is updated and owned by the same company but both the book and website contain different stats on a character. Example:the book was released probably a few months back and the main character Scotty can eat 39 hot dogs, but on the website that was just updated by the company that has given the book the seal of approval says that Scotty can only eat 25 hot dogs.

Like which is more of a reliable source?

If the site is updated by the same company, but not the author of the book, and the book is the primary source material, the book is taken over the site, since it is more true to what the author originally intended.

If the site is updated by the author of the book, then the site will be taken over the book, since it is the more recent info supplied by the creator.

If the book is part of a series written by many writers, and this character is one who has been and will continue to be in the series, then the site will be taken over the book, since it is more recent knowledge.
