Dragon Quest Discussion Thread

I know that you don't want to be involved in the wiki Fan, but we would appreciate it if you could send the 2-B scan.

Also, do you guy's think it's possible for some DQ characters to have concept manip? Personally I think it's highly unlikely, but maybe there's something that might come up to support the notion. My money's on the SoE.
 
We're usually really strict with applying conceptual manipulation.

@Medeus True, that's why I'm incredibly doubtful if there's any evidence.

And I do want to make the profiles for the DQ11 cast, it's just that I only have the normal version of the game instead of the definitive edition, that I'm unaware of any abilities or equipment that the characters get in the definitive edition. So I might have to watch a guide on youtube, either that, or you guy's could help me out (only if you want to of course).

Anyone got a good general idea on Dai no Daibouken stats? I think I did alright with Pop's page but several things could do with a look-see. I wager it's on the level of YYH if not above it.
 
Well, High 6-A sounds reasonable for the end of the story as the most powerful characters did mention destroying the world, but nothing really about damaging the demon world below, so actually blowing up the planet doesn't seem to be the objective of Kill-Vearn.

That said, looking for feats once more may be worth a shot
 
The black core bombs at the very end were said to be able to take out an "entire hemisphere" as stated by Pop and then saying there were 5 more of them meaning he's referring to them individually. Though he then said "maybe even the entire surface" and that's Multi-Continent level by default but have we considered how much power it'd take specifically for an explosion to go around an entire planets surface area?

There's also Ryuumajin Baran suppressing that black core explosion which could be seen from outside the planet and before that Dai was said to be able to "crumble mountains and shake planets" when his dragon power gets serious which was right after the Baran arc.
 
Question: does Erdrick scale to the Low Multi stuff?

Also Erdrick should be comparable to Ramia who can also take hits from Rhapthorne who in turn should be comparable to Estark. Honestly Estark and Nimzo could be low multiverse level as well from this.

At this point I feel like a lot of the big baddies of the series are gonna be 2-C via scaling. What main game wouldn't scale to 2-C?
 
I think DQ IX's Corvus and The Almighty are the only main villains who wouldn't scale to tier 2, unless we decide Legacy bosses are the same as their originals and scale to the Celestrian.

Precisely. To be fair, the exact power really depends on how you are destroying the surface of the world. As seen here, with a few references. Probably we should get a line or context to establish more or less what kind of destruction the explosion brings. (The space explosion could be a good feat in itself)

@Cinos: There should be scanlations around. They can't be addressed here, but shouldn't be hard to find.
 
Alright, so basically baseline 8-A.

So if the calcs are okay that would mean that the Act 1 cast would scale to 8-A. Although since they couldn't defeat Krystalinda without sealing her, they might not fully scale so they're stats would likely be "At least 9-A, at most 8-A", or if they downscale it would be "At least 9-A, likely 8-B". What are you're guy's thoughts?

The bestiary entries for Murdaw and Psaro both make reference to their original games. Murdaw referencing how he likes to send people to dreams (which, though not explicit, is clearly referring to how he BFRed Botsu Carver and Milly into the dream world), and Psaro having a clear reference to how he transformed to take revenge for Rose's death.

They also drop Zenithian gear, which has flavor text saying it was formerly worn by a hero of Zenithia, but that's even sketchier.
 
Corvus was also comparable to The Almighty by the way, who is still God by all means but it seems to be a different entity from DQ7's Almighty (who is for sure, also God).
 
Maybe we could put for the DQ IX characters that would scale "At least 4-A, possibly 2-C" via the fact that the game acknowledges their history and all that, but it's not clear if whether they're canon to the game or not. What about that?

That would be nice, and don't worry, I'm pretty sure High 6-A Dai is fine, we just need a specific value.
 
If they can actually bust a hemisphere, rather than that being a mistranslation or something, then that's small planet level+

Regarding the DQ IX stuff, you actually train the legacy bosses to become much stronger as you fight them, so if we have a "possibly" rating scaling to Psaro, the hero and Corvus would be "possibly at least low 2-C". He'd also scale to possibly Psaro's speed, which should scale to immeasurable by the other DQIV characters, but is listed as unknown for some reason.
 
We'd have to take a second look to what they really mean with the Black Cores, but I don't think they want to actually blow up the planet as the Demon World is actually beneath the surface of the planet and Velther didn't want to destroy his homeworld. Though I'd need to check out again, my memory is fuzzy on it. I do remember that when the party asked Kill-Vearn why Velther was doing all of that he just answered "Meh, beats me, dude's pretty random"
 
He wanted to blow up the surface. Each of the last black core bombs could blow up the entire surface which means their explosion would go a cross the whole planet. Also were supposed to be a lot more powerful than the black core bomb that Baran had to suppress which blew apart the entire valley of death.

Also where could we find good renders for the cast?
 
Not to mean to spoil anything, but can someone gimme a quick rundown as how the True Ending of DQ11 proves that the Super Sword of Light is the same as Sword of Kings? I know that we see the Hero of DQ1 with the same sword, but how does this link to Arus?

Asking for a researched match I'm planning to do with Arus/Erdrick.
 
The Hero of DQ 1 is a descendant of Arus, and DQ 1 takes place generations after DQ 3. In DQ 1 the Super Sword of Light is known as Erdrick's sword, which is the title that both The Luminary and Arus had. The reason why the Erdrick in Erdrick's Sword is referring to Arus is because of the fact that Arus after succeeding his quest, gets stranded in Alefgard (which is not his homeworld and is also the main and only setting of DQ 1) along with the Sword of King's (which is what the SSoL is referred to as in that game) and is bestowed the title of Erdrick there. The Luminary never goes to Alefgard, which means the Erdrick that they're referring to is Arus instead of Eleven (The Luminary).

Sorry for the long explanation.
 
Actually... if the black core bombs were used to obliterate the surface to the point makai would be able to see the sun above that would include destroying the oceans too, no? Would destroying the ocean bump it up a bit?
 
You're right, it's not just cleansing the surface but tearing off a good chunk of it. I know that vaporizing the oceans of the Earth yields around 1 Exaton, still High 6-A but on the higher end.

EDIT: Can we request calcs by this point or it's better to wait for the forum move? I am thinking of compiling manga feats to request them later on.
 
Forum move? I was absent for a while so I don't quite understand.

EDIT: How could we attribute the those specific black core bombs to Dai's power? Vearn put up that magic forcefield after all that was meant to withstand their blasts (albeit from a distance).

@Abs: Hmm, bummer. Better check again the whole context of them.
 
I remember at least that the forcefield died out as Vearn did, as he was the one who cast it. I'll still check though, any excuse to read this GOAT shonen manga.
 
Requesting calculations is probably fine actually, since calculation blogs are still going to be safe.
 
Could I perhaps make a Dai page as a placeholder for later? I kind of did that with Pop. Eager to get stats for it.
