Incorrect name

Why is Krillin being used?

He's real/correct name is Kuririn, and using Krillin disrespects Toriyama's og intentions and other things.

It's because is the name that is mostly known with like Ash Ketchum is mostly called with this name rather than Satoshi. But i'm neutral about which name is applied.

Unfortunately just because it's most widely known does not make it correct, I mean the dub has messed up a lot and I think that Japan he is known as Kuririn and I always knew him as Kuririn (I watched the sub over the dub)

@Dark in this case is different, as Krillin is simply the transliteration of Kuririn, so it's actually the same name

It's like when they use English or other languages' names, they need to adapt it to their Language

Example: despite being a japanese series, some of HDN's main character's names are French words, and in Japanese they're adapted like this:

-Noire: ÒâÄÒâ»Òâ╝Òâ½ (Now─üru)

-Blanc: ÒâûÒâ®Òâ│ (Buran)

-Vert: ÒâÖÒâ╝Òâ½ (Bēru)

Here is like that, but in reverse

Unfortunately using dub names is like not using the original scource material

Also Kuririn is a pun on the japanese word for chestnut

Since most people on this wiki speak English, they would be more familiar with the dub names.

Kuririn= Krillin

Kuririn is nothing but the romanji of the japanese writing of his name (which when going to our language [our well...english] is Krillin)

It's the same reason with Dragon Ball. It's spelled and written as Duragon baru in japanese but in english, it's Dragon Ball

Origins of Characters' names

Good read by the way.

And I think that the english speaking fans of DB should give the sub names and the sub a chance. I think it at least respects the original content of the series.

P.S. How many of the English speaking fan of DB on this wiki have read the manga? The characters are called by their sub names in that.

Unless the dub name is plan stupid the dub name is used because it's the translation and is best known.

The OGDB dub still needs to get raunched up. I mean the sub says all sorts of crude language and swears, make that the same for the dub!

P.S. Tien is stupid because where did the "i" come from, his og name was Ten

Kuririn and Krillin mean the same thing. Krillin is just the full "English"-ized version while Kuririn is the Japanese Romaji, which is literally Japanese + English. Krillin isn't "incorrect" since it's just flat out the English version of Kuririn (Since there's no Kr symbol in Japanese so they used Kur, Ri is a substitule for li. Since riri is back to back, it's spelt with 2 ls. therefore, Krillin).

For Kuririn, Kuri is Japanese for "chestnut". This is Akira Toriyama's joke about Kuririn's lack of hair. Rin (-lin) derives from the word "shaolin"

And Maron , Kuririn's daughter, is also based on another japanese word for chestnut so it would make more sense if the name was Kuririn

He's more recognized as Krillin, and that's literally just the full conversion of the name to English, as others have said above. Toriyama making a joke about his baldness does not outweigh the English name being more recognizable on a predominantly English speaking wiki.

This is such a waste of time change as we'd have to do this for every character whose name is ever so slightly different from the original Japanese.

Krillin is the most well known spelling for us here in the west and overall. Simply put this spelling in the name section of the Character Stats area and call it a day.

If it's the more recognized name, we will use it.

Krillin isn't even an "incorrect" name for reasons i and Akreious have already stated

Also, this disrespects absolutely nothing. Like at all. That's simply blowing this out of proportion and making it worse than it actually really is.
