I just want to see how this would play out, I find this battle intrigating.
 
Also, all of Itachi's attacks besides Totsuka blade would be useless against Valak's incorporeality

I'm not saying it is, but I'm just pointing out that incorporeality isn't an inherent issue for Itachi.

Anyway, how exactly does that possession work? Can you give me some details, if possible?

Not going to work on a incorporeal, just becouse you have Chakra, It doesn't mean that you can affect souls, otherwise people like the Raikage, kisame or Killer B would have It. Itachi only has NPI thanks to having spiritual weapons

Killer Bee has NPI though.
 
Genjutsu affect the consciousness. Whether you are a ghost or not doesn't change the fact you mind is still vulnerable to mental-based attack.
