MonkeyIsland
I made this discussion thread to make it possible for adding LucasArts' legendary computer point-and-click adventure game series Monkey Island on this wiki.

Here's some music to listen up there to revive your childhood/nostalgia.

Topics include:

  1. Talking about the Monkey Island series.
  2. Cleaning/fixing pages.
  3. Adding profiles.
  4. Discussing feats (some of them can be found here).
  5. And etc. (anything else).

Man I loved these games as a kid, though I only played the first two, these were my introduction to point and click and had some pretty darn hilarious moments.

Hmm, I think that aside the explosions you mention there's also this one from two: https://youtu.be/AerjOGn6jGo?t=10744

EDIT: Perhaps Guybrush could have Magic and Pain Manipulation added via Vodoo Magic, but clarifying it needs preparation time. May not be truly combat applicable for a Vs Thread but it can work for his profile.

About that durability feat, while a video (special edition/remake) has a fortress being badly damaged by an explosion, it got completely destroyed in the original version (which may mean a upgrade on tier or at least make Guybrush a stone wall).

You've got a point on voodoo magic, so I added Preparation on his profile as well.

Good find regarding the difference between the remake and the original game.

I think if that feat is acceptable Guybrush could get a good durability above 9-B. I mean, though speak mostly out of ignorance, 8-C needs above 0.25 tons of TNT to qualify, the ammunition room seems to have quite a bit more of than in TNT... quite literally >_>

I was wondering about something, IIRC Guybrush worked as a Circus Performer in the games, at least between 1 and 2 to get the savings Largo steals from you. Has he performed acrobatics in the games themselves?

Hmmm... would LeChuck's punches scale to Guybrush durability? Guybrush is sent flying but overall is unharmed by LeChuck's uppercuts. Though sending Guybrush flying in itself could help to get something for LeChuck's attack.

Also found a possible feat for Lifting Strength, at least for now: Guybrush casually pushes this rock of a cliff. And for movement speed could this work? Guybrush quickly nails shut a coffin with Stan inside.

For stamina it could be considered this as well: Guybrush manages to hang from a rope while holding the Big Whoop's chest for three days.

I think the feat where Guybrush dodges that guards gunfire could count as Enhanced Reflexes given Guybrush had his back turned and still managed to react.

Given the joke with the Root Beer and all that, Guybrush could get Non-Physical Interaction as he can touch ghosts and destroy them.

Was thinking on another possibility. As seen with in the final confrontation with LeChuck in 2, Vodoo dolls allow for a certain degree of Body Puppetry, given LeChuck could use is to twist around Guybrush with his doll, and the Guybrush could maim LeChuck by ripping appart his own vodoo doll.

Wonder how many takes it took to get that exchange right, lol. Between getting the tongue twister right and not breaking in laughter XD

Was thinking about something, when you go to LeChuck's ship in the first game, you have to go through the interior of a Volcano (with some very hellish depictions IIRC). Guybrush doesn't have any heatproof gear yet he wasn't really bothered by the volcanic heat, wasn't he?

Probably. Also, bump (LeChuck's going to be next with a tabber for his different forms' abilities).

Given LeChuck's different forms discard and gain abilities given the nature of his bodies (to put it somehow), the tabs are necessary. I mean, for example, his ghost form has abilities that his zombie form doesn't (such as flight and non-corporeality) and lacks others his zombie form has (loses the weakness to Root Beer and gains Type VII Immortality).

Not related to profiles themselves, but recently found out that Ron Gilbert left after Monkey Island 2 and that apparently he did plan to expand upon the twist ending of that game, and while the following games are very solid by themselves they didn't quite follow what Ron had intended as he had another idea in mind. He also has mentioned that from the seas of speculation about it he has heard theories that come closer to what the ending truly meant but not quite the exact meaning.

Really makes you wonder.

Right...

I heard that Disney recently said they'll want video game developers to "come and play with it's properties (which consists of LucasArts' own), and since Ron wants to get rights of both Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion back (Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle were remastered years ago by Double Fine), so maybe we'll see.

Ron wants to get back Monkey Island? That's pretty good news actually. Has there been word on why he left in the first place?
All I know is that he probably left in 1992 after Monkey Island 2's release last year to start Humongous Entertainment (Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam, etc.) which also focused on point-and-click adventure games.

He was later involved in Tales of Monkey Island's (that only game which isn't on Steam) development on planning and developing the story arc alongside Dave Grossman, despite not having a large role.

I'm so sorry for such a long time since the last bump, but... this was revealed almost a week ago and I just found it out minutes ago upon waking up. HOLY SHIT, I NEVER FELT SO HYPED BEFORE! It's so unexpected!

And since there's no one else who talked about this here, I'm tagging @Armorchompy for this post.

Plus, maybe @CuteAnimeNekoGirl99 for his Sam and Max thread, a fellow LucasArts game franchise.

And a new gameplay trailer came up from the recent Nintendo Direct showcase earlier today! Some scenes imply that you can also play as Elaine Marley, and I also like an art style itself (coming from someone, who worked before on Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet, one of my childhood games). It also gives me Grim Fandango vibes.

Sorry for keeping anyone waiting, but Return to Monkey Island has now released a few weeks ago and having pre-ordered both Steam/Switch ports, being in the first chapter thus far, I can say that I'm starting to like it already.

I mixed the release dates up and haven't gotten it yet =P. For some reason I thought it came out in december. Gonna make sure to get it in the next few days.

In the meantime, let's celebrate with this retrospective on the original games:

So, here's an another reasonable bump for this thread, as in the next week's Tuesday, Return to Monkey Island will be releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & S (via Game Pass).

Also, starting on creating a profile of LeChuck, the evil Ghost Pirate himself, in my sandbox. Those knowledgeable with the series are allowed to edit it for me, if you want to.

You know, being a native spanish speaker who player Monkey Island 2 on spanish... I could literally hear the game mocking me when someone explained the monkey wrench puzzle to me after over a week of obsessive playing.
