The Black Racer undisputedly harvests the souls of new gods, and they are usually depicted as helpless i his presence. Even Darkseid himself fears the Racer, and he expresses as much in Final Crisis. There is no reason to downgrade a character who very clearly elicited this response from Darkseid's godhead. Final Crisis was a unique circumstance in which even after death Darkseid's true form was able to linger in existence due to the Forever Pit. It does not make the Black Racer any less of a threat.

@Oliver: The "avatar" referred to here is Dan Turpin. The Black Racer's death manipulation expelled Darkseid from Turpin's body and dragged his physical presence to the afterlife. There's nothing wrong with the description. It's just a complicated storyline that requires a lot of context to truly appreciate.
