Pokemon Immunity?

Why are Pokemon immune to certain elemental attacks, shouldn't this just be resistance?

Aren't Flying Pokemon literally only immune to ground type attacks because they can fly or are they actually considered completely immune on the wiki?

Here's a list of the different type immunities and why these types don't work against the others:

Normal X Ghost: Intangibility.

Fighting X Ghost: Same as Normal.

Ghost X Normal: Same, but in reverse.

Electric X Ground: Think about something like a lightning rod, and how it dispersed electricity harmlessly into the ground. Same principle.

Dark X Psychic: In Japanese, Dark is translated as "Evil," which resists the attempts to read their minds by psychics. ...Or game mechanics. I'm not entirely sure.

Steel X Poison: Metal can't be harmed by poisons, aside from maybe acids.

Fairy X Dragon: Uhh, literally game mechanics as explained by the creators.

And as for Flying X Ground, yes, you're absolutely right about that. Flying types only resist because they can fly above the ground. Same case with Pokemon having the ability Levitate. This is also why they lose their immunity when effected by moves such as Roost or Smack Down, because then they stop flying.

I believe Immunity should be kept for Fairy/Dragon, Dark/Psychic and Poison/Steel. Electric/Ground I can see as just being a pure resistance, especially after Pikachu breaks them constantly, Flying/Ground is easily bypassed and not really an immunity, and the ones involving Ghost is mainly just the Ghost types flexing their Intangibility at everyone.

No, they're all resistances. Logic wise, it makes no sense for, say, mewtwo or Psychic Arceus, to not being able to harm a Rattata.

Apply the same reasoning to other types.
