A complete overhaul of Aldebaran's page, from his summary to his abilities to all of his stats, following the completion of his primary arc, Light of a Nameless Star. (Also, Al's true name is obscured for this CRT, but it won't be obscured on his page).

Current Page

My Sandbox

Abilities:
Resistances:
Attack Potency: Wall level+ (It has been stated that Al is a regular person, although stronger than the likes of Subaru), up to City level with magic (He was able to injure Garfiel Tinsel, overthrowing him by pressing his vital points)

Speed: Athletic Human, Superhuman flight speed (Gliding with wings of earth, Al can soar at over 100 kilometers per hour), Sub-Relativistic reaction and perception speed (Superior to Subaru. By looping time, he completely overwhelmed Garfiel in close-quarters combat)

Lifting Strength: Athletic Human

Striking Strength:
Wall level+, up to City level with magic (His Earth Brand Arts clashed with Emilia's Ice Brand Arts)

Durability: Wall level+, up to City level with magic (With his stone arm, he blocked Rem's morning star. Using earthern armor, he withstood attacks from Emilia)

Stamina: Superhuman (Al has the resolve to die hundreds of thousands of times to defeat his opponents, believing that he can keep going even if it's beyond the realm of a billion. As part of his training, he systematically experienced literally every conceivable way a person could die over ten-thousand times each, totalling over a million deaths, in order to become desensitized to dying. In his first true battle, Aldebaran died hundreds of millions of times. Al was able to fight against the undead continuously for several hours. He continued fighting for his goal even though his brain had gone without rest for nearly 100 hours. With his connection to Alter, Al has a nearly inexhaustible supply of mana to draw upon)

Range: Extended Melee Range, Hundreds of Meters with Magic (Al created an enormous 100-meter-wide boulder high in the sky)

Standard Equipment:
  • Gladiator King Helmet: A replica of a helmet owned by a figure known as the Gladiator King. The helmet has no special properties, but it brings relief to Al because he feels that he could not have face-to-face conversations otherwise.
  • Ilyudao: Literally named "Blue Dragon Sword", Al's dao is an average sword that he wields with second-rate skill.
  • Drug Package: Al keeps a specialized drug package behind his molar in order to speed up his loops through suicide. The drug is such a potent poison that immediately after swallowing it, intense heat runs through Al's body, boiling his blood, causing him to spew up melted viscera and die in seconds.
Optional Equipment:
  • Aldebaran's Book of the Dead: The Book of the Dead inscribed with Aldebaran's True Name. Due to his Authority, Al has experienced death despite being alive, thus resulting in this anomolous book. It contains the sum total of Aldebaran's Memories up to his most recent death, and updates with Memories every time he dies. As the book directly fills the mind of the reader with the deceased's Memories, it is an effective tool for disturbing the mind of his opponent by showing them its pages.
  • Steel Thread Ring: One of Yae Tenzen's rings, given to Aldebaran. The ring is an object invented by the Master of Curse Tools, producing a nigh-invisible steel thread that the user can manipulate. The steel thread technique is incredibly difficult to use, but Aldebaran mastered it on one finger over the course of several thousand loops— it can bind, strangle, and slice through flesh. By kissing the ring, Al can make the thread ignite with an explosion of flames, sacrificing their unseen nature for greater power.
  • Jiranme Short Sword: A weapon given to Aldebaran by Yae Tenzen. It is a shinobi-style short sword coated in a terribly lethal poison mixture called jiranme, which can kill a normal person with a single drop touching the skin. It's so toxic that even shinobi who are trained to resist poison are killed nearly instantly when struck with this blade.
  • Divine Dragon's Fang: A fang of the legendary Divine Dragon, constructed of a great volume of mana. Using this fang to aid him, Al can disable certain protective seals.
Intelligence: Gifted (Aldebaran is a person lacking in skill, making up for it with sheer ingenuity and determination. He has spent over a decade as a gladiator fighting for his life. Al can come up with tens of different ways to kill monstrous superhumans such as Hornet despite lacking strength or skill, and his Authority means he can always make those plans a reality. Through looping time 5,765 times, he manipulated the entire Emilia Camp into moving exactly as he wanted them to, all in order to isolate Subaru in the Pleiades Watchtower with only opponents who Al can deal with. Al's analytical ability allows him to, through his looping, completely grasp everything a person is capable of, how they respond to different approaches, and how to manipulate them in a way that suits him. Across 23,008 loops, Al learned to use the Steel Thread Technique at a viable level for him, despite the fact that only the most gifted of geniuses can even grasp the fundamentals, let alone master the technique), Genius magician (Aldebaran's use of magic makes efficient use of his limited resources, allowing him to get the jump on genius magicians such as Sphinx. Despite his lack of talent, Al is capable of casting multiple spells at once, and even two spells of differing attributes, which is of such difficulty that it practically requires multiple brains to perform. Aldebaran's only magical affinity was for the Yin attribute, which his Teacher nurtured with hellish training until he developed definite mastery of Yin Magic. Al has been imparted the complete magical knowledge of the Witch of Greed, who is the one who trained him from his birth, although he can only truly put his vast knowledge into practice with a superior vessel, as he lacks the mana, Gate, or talent to use it)

Weaknesses: Aldebaran's Domain must be set up manually, and it has a specific radius in which time can be reset, meaning that if Al leaves this Domain he will have to define his Domain once again or risk dying without any second-chances— the exception being Aggressor of the Domain, which activates even if Al willingly unravels the Domain. If Al updates his Matrix at a poor time he could trap himself in a softlock where he dies repeatedly forever. Al's Authority only turns back time upon his death, meaning he could be incapacitated without having a chance to die. The Authority causes some degree of mental damage, which can threaten the stability of his Domain, but he mitigates this with repeated suicides to rest his mind with unlimited time.
Domain: Aldebaran possesses an unenumerated Authority linked to a Witch Factor, despite possessing no Witch Factor of his own, which allows him to create an imperceptible Domain with a Matrix, within which a target can placed inside of a time-loop. His Domain has two different variations, based on the which side is given initiative within the Domain: Victim or Aggressor.
  • Victim of the Domain: This is the side of Al's Authority where he, as the Victim, receives initiative. Time will be reset back to a pre-defined point in the Matrix upon Al's death. It is also possible that Al can set other conditions for the Matrix updating. By allowing Al to challenge a situation as many times as he desires, he can learn everything about the short loop such as the opponent's fighting style, how they respond to different actions or words, and exploit all of this information, while to everyone else it appears as though Al has some sort of precognition or flawless combat abilities. This requires an inhuman level of mental fortitude as not only is death agonizing, but even loops a few tens of seconds long can last days or even years if repeated enough.
  • Aggressor of the Domain: A bug of Al's Authority, when Al's resolve weakens and he is cornered by his opponent, or otherwise loses faith in his Authority, the Domain will switch the initiative of the Authority from Al to his opponent, the Aggressor. Time will continuously reset back to a pre-defined point regardless of what occurs within the loop. This is Al's most powerful ability, as while neither he nor the opponent can die within the loop, only they will remember the loops. The opponent will eventually go mad within the inescapable repeating world, so from Al's perspective he can just deactivate his Authority immediately after confirming their heart has broken. This bug will activate even if Al doesn't wish for it, including when has undone his Domain, but he was also capable of activating this bug willfully when he hardened his resolve.
Magic: Al has been imparted with vast magical knowledge from his Teacher, including great magic of several attributes and a number of forbidden arts, although he lacks the resources to make use of most of it. He has still been trained to be exceptionally crafty and efficient with his magic.
  • Earth Magic:Al primarly uses Earth Magic, allowing him to manipulate the earth, stone, mud, etc. Al is exceedingly creative in using Earth Magic, making up for his lack of skill with ingenuity. He can construct earthern weapons, armor, prosthetics, manipulate the environment, and more.
    • Dona: With this spell he can fire stones at his opponents, or raise a small wall of earth for defense or mobility.
    • El Dona: With this spell he can make the ground burst with stone spikes where he aims, or coat his body in earthern armor.
    • Earth Brand Arts: A technique stolen from Emilia, Al creates numerous stone weapons of various breed which he wields, shatters, and transforms freely, making use of the disposable weapons to rapidly change fighting styles.
  • Ol Shamak: A forbidden art of the Yin attribute developed by Echidna, it is unknown where this spell ranks alongside the other tiers of Shamak. It is an anti-Witch trump-card which seals the target's body in a contradictory black light, and ceases the function of their Gate. This spell does not reach its full potential unless used on a target that was granted power by a Witch Factor, the effect of the spell being far greater and sealing the target in a small black orb.

The main thing I want to clarify is my proposed Varies rating. Al's Authority allows him to repeat fights to master their events like a save-scummer. This works despite Aldebaran being ordinary by all accounts, and yet he manages to completely crush explicit superhumans in hand-to-hand combat.
It has been stated that Al is a regular person, but by abusing his Authority to loop time, Al has been able to perform superhuman feats that shouldn't be possible: He blocked attacks from Hornet, a woman on par with Divine Generals; he killed a powerful undead Cyclops warrior; he was able to defend against Olbart Dunkelkenn; and he was able to injure Garfiel Tinsel, overthrowing him by pressing his vital points, and landing all of his attacks while evading all of Garfiel's. According to Echidna, there is no one who can defeat Aldebaran, not even Sekhmet.

I think this is the best and simplest solution even if it's imperfect, since logically Al's stats should not be changed by simply repeating an event, there just is no perfect solution to this as it doesn't fully make sense no matter how you slice it.

That's about it. Please do bring up anything you think I should change or fix, even as minor as a typo.

I don't think his AP should be like this.

Just listing his feats of beating such superior opponents with redoes etc should be enough.

He shoud at most downscale to Garfiel rather than fully scaling to him in terms of combat speed as well. He already knows what to do, which technique to use and how to overwhelm the opponent. Like AP section, this should count like "act of skill and preknowledge via repitition"

For abilities, Immortality should include Type 8 as it is completely reliant on his domain.

Intelligence is weird, as he only has extraordinary genius level knowledge, but no skill or reasoning ability on genius level or so. "Above Average/Gifted" and then adding knowledge as would be better imo.

Casting two magic in re:zero is an act that could be said to have two brains and was something only 5 known people could do. He was also casting multiple magic of the same element which is imressive skill. He then learned how to use one of Yae steel threads which no shinobi was able to do including Olbart.

He does it via looping over and over. Aldebaran never succeeds something first try, even making wings took him like 600 death while Emilia did it first try, to show the difference in skill.

Aldebaran has the magical knowledge of Echidna, and learned how to do it by repeating countless times, but that's it. He was extremely scared when he realized he had to do something first try in his life for once.

Aldebaran is not a genius in terms of intelligence. He just has the means to do these. Extraordinary Genius as he has the magical knowledge of Echidna, but not reasoning ability or skill.

Aldebaran is not a genius in terms of intelligence. He just has the means to do these. Extraordinary Genius as he has the magical knowledge of Echidna, but not reasoning ability or skill.
Doing it via looping doesn't actually change what I say. Unless you believe within the looping he spent more than 100 years and grasped something no shininobi was ever able to grasp due to sheer time. The fact he was able to do it is a genius feat in itself.

He also cast 2 magic on his first go without using looping

To implement the magic knowledge of Echidna one also does have the level of brain to do it. Echidna could teach you how to cast 2 spells as once but if you don't have the mental capacity to do such a thing it's not possible.

A 9-B athletic human character who can shitstomp 6-A sub-rel characters in CQC by just repeating the fight Dark Souls-style is not flying on VSBW. Hence the Varies proposition.

For abilities, Immortality should include Type 8 as it is completely reliant on his domain.
Ehhh I suppose.

Intelligence is weird, as he only has extraordinary genius level knowledge, but no skill or reasoning ability on genius level or so. "Above Average/Gifted" and then adding knowledge as would be better imo.
Sticking with Genius because for feats like barely grasping the fundamentals of the Steel Thread Ring, that only took a month at most using some simple maths and the number of loops. And twofold magic is parallel processing which isn't really reduced by Al's trial-and-error gimmick: ether you use two brains worth of thinking capacity or you don't.

I'd go as far to say Aldebaran is easily the smartest among the royal candidates' knights.

Strongly agree with the usage of "varies" for Al's stats. It is very clear through the text that Al doesn't and shouldn't scale to most of the characters he fights against in most respects, doing so would just introduce numerous other inconsistencies with his performance across his various fights.

We already have one guy who can somehow beat people way above his weight class with prep time. Same applies to Al.

He should just be 9-B and anything higher a cartoonish outlier. The writer clearly thought if a human had enough time they could win a fight with the other characters, not thinking about how they made everyone else walking nukes so that makes no sense

Outlier does not work at all because that did be ignoring the fact that he did beat walking nukes numerous times

Disagree with the varies tier since it explictly break the rules of it
“Varies” ratings should only be given to characters who have a canon explanation for why their statistics fluctuate. This does not include characters who are simply inconsistent or have unexplainable variations in their displayed power level. The fluctuations in power must have a clear and logical basis within the character's respective canon.
I feel like putting it as some sort of Reactive Evolution that allow him to catch up to his current foe's level as he loop would make more sense and that's basically the varies just without the rule breaking.
Something like:
9-B, up to X with Reactive Evolution (justifications)
again basically the same thing just worded differently

The canon explanation is his looping. He isn't "simply inconsistent."
you left out the second half
The fluctuations in power must have a clear and logical basis within the character's respective canon.
The looping is the canon explanations for why he win normally unwinable fights but it lack a justifications for the boost of strenght he is getting.

BTW i mistook the two but it should be Reactive Power Level aka Accelerated Development (Battle) instead of Reactive Evolution

Kinda agree with this.

We don't give people intel based on them having to go through countless redoes to get something finally right, a genius is definitionally someone whose expertise is in specific subject and scale wise puts them above grasping concepts quickly. "Only took a month" means of 20 days, if we just read the gifted description:

"Gifted: Characters who demonstrate high reasoning ability, can master difficult concepts with few repetitions, and display high performance capability or notable mastery in intellectual or specific academic fields, which makes them equivalent to real-world experts in these areas."

The fact he's "barely grasping the fundamentals" is indicative of him not being even gifted. Then he used loops as well. This is trial and error not an intell feat.

On the case of the two brains, this doesn't entail intelligence on a genius level. The way it's talked about, is that it requires a lot of concentration to do two different tasks at once. Humans already do this, unless there's some magical reason where spell activation is already a gifted or genius task, there's no sense in saying it's a genius feat.

You're missing the fact that only one person in the past few hundred years of history has actually been proficient at using the steel threads. Many of those who tried are geniuses for fulfilling the requirements you're talking about, but weren't able to because the threads are considered to just be that difficult to use. Al "barely grasping the fundamentals" is actually incredibly impressive.

In terms of knowledge this is fine for Gifted. Geniuses not doing it, doesn't mean he's now a genius, it means he's gifted and he still required 23,008 loops. Also, do we know if those geniuses also had the same sort of training he had across 23,008 loops? If not, we're kinda comparing apples to oranges.

"...only the most gifted of geniuses can even grasp the fundamentals, let alone master the technique." (Arc 9 Chapter 50)

Casting more than one at a time is incredibly difficult, and the difficulty rises to requiring multiple brains-worth of thinking when they're of differing attributes. (Arc 9 Chapter 52)

Also, do we know if those geniuses also had the same sort of training he had across 23,008 loops? If not, we're kinda comparing apples to oranges.
Not training, he borrowed the ring and then had to survive a very harsh loop of being surprise-attacked no matter where he fled. He learned the shinobi technique from square-one in the midst of figuring out how to take down a number of lackeys, and a determined superhuman, without anyone dying.

The training of shinobi themselves is arguably crueler than that, but the only one to have actually mastered the steel thread technique is Yae.

This is all without mentioning the fact that he has a complete understanding of everything Echidna taught him (Arc 9 Chapter 57), he just lacks the physical resources to put that into practice (Arc 9 Chapter 14). Like how Julia is an extraordinary genius magician despite being a martial artist incapable of casting magic.

That is still gifted in knowledge, it does not make him a genius and he did this over the course of 20,008 loops. It is not proving what you want.

I already read it, read where they compare it to write an essay and drawing. It's about concentration not pure intelligence.

So trial and error not pure intelligence, over 20,008 loops.

Aka knowledge not skill.

Edit: This deadass says he lacks the essential talent.

Hardly anyone in centuries could do it, and he did it in a subjective span of 15-30 days. He grasped the fudamentals, which "only the most gifted of geniuses" could do.

"Pure intelligence" is not a thing. And the exact comparison is simultaneously penning an essay with one hand while illustrating a picture with the other hand. Not the first time this kind of comparison was made (Arc 8 chapter 52).

This is an intelligence rating, not a skill section, I'm not sure why you think this would have to be skill. Sheer volumes of knowledge are absolutely factored into the extremely broad category of "intelligence".

This essential talent is a physiological gap, a limit decided by the body. He does not have a hardy-enough Gate (which is an "organ") or the mana capacity to take advantage of the great magic he's mastered. Al is extremely knowledeable on the history and nature of magic and associated techniques.

That is still gifted. You do not need to be genius to do something geniuses do. And he did this through thousands of loops.

Pure as in general knowledge, you're arguing for something specific here. That comparison is about concentration. Both comparisons are about concentration, except that dead language one, that's a more complex thing in the brain than just intelligence.

Al is extremely knowledeable on the history and nature of magic and associated techniques.
Yeah I know, he's genius or eg with knowledge but his body is not able to replicate it without looping for thousands of times.

Al should get atleast a genius rating, being able to perform something that not even actual "geniuses" in re zero can do is a skill feat since its time independent.

I still believe he should have multiple ratings for intelligence.

Like, Extraordinary Genius in magic since he has learned everything Echidna knows. Average, Above Average or Gifted normally.

If we're adding Genius, it should be included as "looping" since there are anti feats and statements of intelligence/skill as well. (Like failing to make wings 600 times while Emilia does it first try, which he stated it's his lack of skill rather than Emilia being a genius)

Though, we don't do ratings based on skill anymore, so i don't think these even works since "genius" here doesn't seem to talk about raw intelligence type genius but talent/skill wise.
