Been wanting to do some clean-ups, revisions, and additions for Fire Emblem because I'm a huge heckin' weeb, and this was something I wanted to get other people's opinion on:

A bunch of Fire Emblem games have some sort of a tutorial to explain how the series works to new players, normally done with textboxs and icons on the screen to walk the player through what is going on.

Fire Emblem Awakening, to my knowlage, is the only game that handles this a bit differantly.

There's still a lot of the onscreen displays explaining how game mechanics work and walk the player through what they need to know, but while you're getting this information as the player, the Avatar character, Robin, is having a conversation with Chrom:

  • Chrom: Still with us, Robi?
  • Robi: Hmm… It's strange. Here on the battlefield, I can… Well, I can "see" things.
  • Chrom: See things? Like what?
  • Robi: The enemy's strength, their weaponry, the flow of battle… I must have studied this somewhere.
  • Chrom: So, you're saying you can size up the enemy at a glance?
  • Robi: Yes, it would seem so. And perhaps more, if I apply myself…
-and-

  • Chrom: Are you all right, Robi? Don't rush into danger.
  • Robi: I'm fine, Chrom. Don't worry.
  • Chrom: You've lent us your strength, and that makes you a friend. Having an ally by my side gives me courage.
  • Robi: Thank you, but…I think there's more to it than that.
  • Chrom: What do you mean?
  • Robi: I believe there's a tactical advantage to fighting side by side… It's fuzzy… Wait, yes: working in pairs improves strength, defense, speed… Yes, yes, I'm sure of it!
I think these statements from Robin are implying that he has some level of Information Analysis while he's on the battlefield, and that's part of what makes him such a good tactician. He's outright talking about the abilities you have as a player being things that he can 'see', he knows the stats on the battlefield, gear on his opponents, he even makes calls and stratagies against opponents out of his field of view. And his own line about more probably means things like checking evenerything else like bios and what skills a unit has equiped.

I don't know if this leans too heavily on game mechanics or not, but it seems the series is trying to give an in-universe explination for the player's influence in battles through Robin having this ability, and if so, it should be added to his Powers and Abilities.

EDIT: ...Oh, seems I'm two years late to the party on this one: https://vsbattles.com/vsbattles/997674

However, judging by the thread, it seems like Information Analysis wasn't a thing at the time, since everyone is guessing it could be a precog (which is what I thought too, I won't lie). So, I think this thread still has merit for an update should people agree.

You can ask other members who are listed in the Fire Emblem page to comment here if you wish.

I agree with adding Info Analysis

Seeing "the flow of battle" is also likely precognition (and likely refers to seeing hit rates before battle, just like everything else having a gameplay mechanic equivalent)

Would it be Precongnition or Analytical Prediction? I genuinely can't tell, but considering that a lot of this stems from Robin's skill as a tactician I'd lean more that its A-P.

I recall precognition being rejected on the previous thread, but analytical prediction seems fine.

So a combination of Information Analysis and Analytical Prediction to explain Robin's ability to see the information of stat and battle screens?

I believe Robin also uses Analytical Prediction in a few support conversations, I'll be back on that in a while with some support (hehe, support...)

What a weirdo, but that's because he is Just Some Weirdo.

So has this been accepted then?

Looks like it, but I think JSW is looking for a better scan first.

It can probably just be added whenever, I'm just looking for a few more moments of Analytical Prediction

Off the top of my head, Robin was capable of avoiding Morgan's pitfall hehe pitfall based on their mannerism (iirc Robin even knew exactly where it was)

Thanks. Should we close this thread then?
