Instinctive Reaction: Not 100% sure, but I think it's because Ogami's technique initially summoned Toji without a soul/consciousness, so he was fighting purely on instinct?
Resistance to Soul Manipulation: In Chapter 98, Ogami attempts to summon Toji's body without his soul but Toji ignores that restriction of leaving the soul and regains his soul anyway.
