This thread is just about Quasi-Spirit physiology from Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet, since it’s something that doesn’t really get talked about much.

- Incorporeality, Invulnerability, Possibly Abstract Existence (Type 1), Immortality (Type 4): As explained by Sawa, they’re basically just heart, mind, and memories that have lost their physical information. They don’t have a physical body at all and exist purely as souls, so everything they feel is experienced directly by the soul itself. The Neighboring World is basically an afterlife where only souls without physical bodies exist. Even if they appear alive again, it means they’ve been separated from their physical body at least once. For Quasi-Spirits, death isn’t real death. Since they don’t have physical bodies, “dying” just means going back to the other side or getting reset as an empty shell, and there’s always another chance to exist again. Death basically refers to the death of the soul itself, making physical death irrelevant to them. The soul is even stated to be the abstract concept that defines a human.
- Inorganic Physiology (Type 1) & Unconventional Resistance to Biological Manipulation, Matter Manipulation: Basically, the “physical” bodies of Quasi-Spirits, including Kurumi, aren’t made of flesh and blood, but of Reiryoku, which forms all types of matter. Reiryoku builds their bodies using the information contained in the Sephira. This is unconventional because their material structure is fundamentally different. In the Real World, matter is defined at the atomic level, but in the Neighboring World, all matter is basically the same since everything is made of Reiryoku. Reiryoku basically acts as everything, as the flesh, bones, and blood, that makes up their bodies. So losing a body doesn’t count as actual death.
- Immortality (Type 2, 3), Self-Biological Manipulation (Molecular), Matter Manipulation (Atoms/Molecules), Low-Godly Regeneration: Quasi-Spirits won’t die even if they get shot in the head or heart, and they can repair damaged bodies. They can also actively create a body from a bodiless soul by using Reiryoku to assemble chemical elements.
- Immortality (Type 1), Self-Sustenance (Type 1, 2, 3), Flight & Resistance to Poison Manipulation, Disease Manipulation & Immunity to Age Manipulation: Quasi-Spirits don’t die even if they don’t eat or sleep, and they don’t age either. Their existence is described as being like a mirage, they don’t feel hunger, don’t get sick, and can even fly. No matter how much blood they lose, what kind of deadly poison they inhale, or even if they try to disappear or die, their Spirit body will automatically keep them alive, even against their own will. Since they don’t have a physical body, they don’t breathe at all. Hibiki only breathed for the first time when she created a biological body to enter reality. They also don’t grow or shrink, since they don’t physically develop into adults, and their bodies don’t age. Quasi-Spirits are immortal because they don’t have a concept of age. The only thing that kinda gives them a sense of “age” is the experience engraved in their soul.
- Supranatural Willpower, Subjective Reality, Invisibility: Dream is basically a form of willpower that affects how they fight and survive. It’s seen as the purpose of their consciousness. Since they don’t have physical bodies, they’re kinda like ghosts. Simply put, dream is “hope”, it lets them bring anything they want into reality as long as they keep believing in it. They survive by consuming dream, and through it, they can create physiological traits that would normally be impossible just by hoping. No matter how much blood they lose, what kind of deadly poison they inhale, or even if they try to disappear or die, their Spirit body will automatically keep them alive, even against their own will.
- Subjective Reality, Creation (Limited), Construction, Cloth Manipulation: Reiryokuken is basically a boundary they create and develop themselves, inside it, they’re pretty much omnipotent. They can create all kinds of things based on their Reiryoku capacity and imagination, though their physiological limits can still hold them back. Even so, there’s a condition for this kind of construction: they can only reproduce objects that don’t feel out of place in the surrounding environment. For example, Kurumi can create whatever food she wants, but this only works in places like a “café” or similar settings. As long as they have enough Reiryoku, they can create all kinds of materials, generate whatever sensations they want, and even make clothes. On top of that, they can reconstruct empty space into a livable place by adding color and furniture.
- Invisibility Negation: Reiryoku can be spread out to cancel out invisibility abilities.
- Immortality (Type 7): Quasi-Spirits, including Kurumi, are souls that can’t truly die since they’re technically already dead as humans. In this context, it means they can live forever.
- Possibly Immortality (Type 8) & Unconventional Resistance to Soul Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, Energy Absorption, Life Manipulation, Death Manipulation: Sephira is basically the thing that sustains a Spirit’s existence and acts as both their life source and their source of power. It also functions as the core that drives their existence, including Kurumi’s, like a blueprint for both their psyche and body. It stores, records, engraves, and interprets all the information about their soul and body. On top of that, Sephira also regulates the cycle of life and death through information. The term “psyche” refers to the whole mind and soul, both conscious and unconscious, along with other mental aspects like awareness, memory, etc. So in this context, Sephira can basically be seen as replacing the soul, since it represents the inner forces that shape a person’s thoughts, behavior, and personality. Sephira interprets the information that guides their actions. Each Quasi-Spirit has a genus determined by the type of Sephira fragment they have, which comes from the ten Sephira, and that genus basically defines the rough archetype of their power. In short, a Spirit is the source of power that a Quasi-Spirit tries to control, with the Spirit itself being the embodiment of that power. This statement is proof that their souls are actually sustained by a core called Sephira and Reiryoku. Their sense of purpose or “self” also acts to keep their soul from being swallowed by the overwhelming flow of Reiryoku. Reiryoku can basically be seen as life energy or fuel, since losing it means death or the loss of their existence. In this context, they only have two ways to die, both involving Reiryoku, Sephira, and their purpose of life/dream. Sephira’s role is to maintain a Spirit’s internal Reiryoku. The first type of death happens when they lose their purpose in life, causing the Sephira inside them to no longer sustain their Reiryoku. The second type happens when an attack directly damages the Sephira itself, so it can’t maintain their Reiryoku or their body anymore. As I explained before, Reiryoku basically acts as everything, it powers the world, shapes it, and even forms Quasi-Spirits themselves. Logically, a soul without a body isn’t considered death, but an individual without Reiryoku is. An attack that damages the Sephira literally causes their light of life to fade, even affecting their mind, thought, emotions, and feelings. It’s also stated that the Sephira acts as their “heart”, meaning they can produce Reiryoku through it, and losing it will result in death. Ofc, death basically refers to the death of the soul itself.
- Intangibility (Limited) & Resistance to Temperature Manipulation (Extreme Heat): Astral Dress is often described as a spiritual body, where Spirits can pass through matter or physical objects by syncing the frequency of their spiritual body. They adjust the wavelength of their existence to match the object they’re passing through, allowing them to move through it. However, this process has risks, if the synchronization fails, their spiritual body can get eroded or even fuse with the object, like the warning that someone could “merge with a door”. Astral Dress can withstand temperatures up to thousands of degrees.
- Unconventional Resistance to Physics Manipulation: The Neighboring World has different laws of physics, they can basically do anything, even things that should be impossible, and Quasi-Spirits don’t follow normal physics either.
