TBH, Even if they use the country end, Travelers country scaling goes further than Aangs alongside being faster, nulling/resisting energy bending, better ways to reliably heal mid-fight and Traveler being not a pacifist meaning he'd be more likely to go for the kill.

Yeah Resident Evil. They're action horror movie heroines, both were released concurrently, the movies were terribly rated but kept getting sequels anyways, mostly because both franchises were just pilots for the directors to make their wives (Alice and Selene's actresses) look awesome.
It's not the traditional connections, but trust me it was a rivalry that existed and persisted until both franchises ended. Think of it like how Robocop and Terminator, or Alien and Predator are rivalries; there aren't a lot of personal similarity between characters, but their wider context leads to them getting paired.
