I'm cautiously optimistic. We know FromSoft for their expansive fantasy worlds, so a spinoff that is seemingly marketing itself as just a pre-existing setting 'but this time with seamless co-op' feels off. You'd think FromSoft wouldn't start with this line of marketing if it kept up with the intrigue of their previous works.
I think it will be interesting to say the least. It definitely isn't one of their main projects and is likely a way for them to stay making something interesting in the world of Elden Ring without making another massive game, and its being led by entirely new director with his own idea. I'm confident and Miyazaki and everyone else's willingness to let him use the IP and try something new, especially with them allowing him to even include Dark Souls characters in this game.
The director is a veteran Fromsoft employee working on Dark Souls 1 level design and DS3 and Elden rings combat. So he's been apart of the franchise for a while. He also got permission from Miyazaki and Tanimura to use the enemies from the Dark Souls franchise. So it'll be super interesting to see how this will turn out.

That's a fair take, but Miyazaki not being a direct part of it doesn't scare me to much. Sure, Dark Souls 2 stands as the example of what can happen when the original creators vision is lost on an IP, but then we had AC6 which so absolutely astounding that I'm honestly not as worried.
Very different games, those two.
Yeah I know, I'm just saying I have my confidence in a game not directed by Miyazaki, especially one that is more combat focused (even though AC6 did have an amazing story, it overall wasn't the main selling point).
2-C Microcosm confirmed?
It obviously isn't cannon, but I think there's a good possibility that info about pre-shattering info could give insight into main game events. The director said its separate and parallel to main story of Elden Ring, and that it diverges at the shattering, but if we get info on things that happened before that, then I see no reason we couldn't extrapolate that to Elden Ring.
The events after the shattering aren't cannon, but the pre-shattering events stay the same. Its like an alternate history, and the history of Nightreign and Elden Ring diverge after the Shattering war.
If it ends up being non-canon, we won't be using it lol. That is the reason.

I was on the frontlines of hype for Elden Ring. You are blind, but a babe mewling in the night. You know not of what you speak. The last two FromSoft projects just look kinda like dogshit. Nightreign is demonstrably mid compared to their other projects, and I'm not confident in this one. Genuinely though, I'm optimistic right now. Even though I like Nightreign, I'm even more confident that this game will be good more-so than that. Even though they are treading new ground with that game and trying to make something new and fun, I definitely see the arguments people had when worrying about asset reuse or the "slop" nature of a multiplayer, non-story focused PvE game.
Between Nightreign and now the Duskbloods though, the only connection these two seem to have is just they have large multiplayer focuses. Where Duskbloods is different it is that it is seemingly entirely new, not only in gameplay but in style. It's not like nightreign where it's harmless and fun asset reuse; there is even more heart and soul behind this game with it seemingly having a unique and deep world/aesthetic combined with new mechanics.
Overall, I'd say just give it a chance before coming to conclusions. There's literally a press release tomorrow, so it's frustrating to see all the people crying online when all we have is a 2 minute long trailer which completely blindsided everyone, and a 2 sentence paragraph which barely explains anything about the game.
Please for the love of god tell me this is satire.
