@Oblivion_Of_The_Endless The scans can still work, the problem is archiving them so you don't lose access to the links. I've tried to go back on my Gyazo gallery to find scans I've taken 4 years ago and it wouldn't let me because I didn't have a subscription service. If I hadn't got a discord server where all of the links are posted then I wouldn't have been able to get access to it. Not saying Gyazo is completely unreliable, but there is a hurdle to get around unlike with something like Imgur where you can just go back to your scans from 2020 and still be fine.

I already wrote one, and Reiner refined it.

And I'm generally taking a break, outside of stuff that's highly important and can be done by few, or no, other staff members
Welp, I'm going through mental health issues involving loss of interest in most things, including battleboarding.

Based on historical experiences, I'll probably get back into the swing of things in 1-9 months, but until then I won't be engaging in anything that requires more than the absolute minimum of effort, or is of the utmost criticality.

Okay. No problem.

@Reiner04

Can you modify your draft text based on our current conclusions please? 🙏

Due to recurring issues with Imgur and Gyazo deleting scans without prior warning in certain cases, we discourage their use. Instead, we recommend using Catbox (link), and the wiki itself (link) as primary hosts for free file hosting services for media needed for profiles or blogs, While those are the preferred options, Imgchest (link) is also recommended as a secondary host if the others aren't working for you. The wiki often works well, but full-page comic scans are not allowed to be uploaded due to copyright issues, the file limit is rather small, workarounds must be done to present multiple files in series or with descriptions, and they can't be properly embedded on our forum. Catbox avoids most of these issues, with a very generous file limit, but requires an account to add descriptions or create albums, and is blocked in Australia as well as by some ISPs. Imgchest, while reliable, is newer than our primary hosts and is thus recommended as a secondary option.

The third bullet point in the images section needs to be updated to replace Imgur with the sites we recommend:
Please do not directly link pages to free online manga reading sites. These sites can be laden with malware and cause legal troubles for users living in countries where anti-piracy laws are strictly enforced. If you would like to link a manga scan or similar image as evidence for a feat, please download the picture and upload it as an image on this wiki or to a third-party site like Catbox (Primary) or Imgchest (Secondary) so that it may be used fairly while minimising potential ramifications. However, you should definitely not use Discord for this purpose, as the images can easily be removed/deleted along with the server that they are posted in, thus severely compromising their longevity.

As far as I know, Gyazo does not delete scans; rather, it only restricts viewing to the latest 10 uploaded images. This distinction should be clarified so that people do not assume Imgur and Gyazo were discouraged for the same thing.

That seems good to me. Thank you for helping out. 🙏❤️

I think the current wording is fine. It doesn't say that Imgur isn't an option; it only states that its use is discouraged due to the issues it currently has. Since scans can be deleted without warning, it's safer to recommend other hosts instead. The goal is simply to encourage the use of more reliable hosts.

I'd also prefer to minimize a possible issue before it ends up causing us all sorts of problems.

I don't think so, unless other people have issues with the rewording.

If you're content with it, we can wrap it up, or if you want to wait for more, we can also do that.

Because I have been told by a Fandom staff member that our wiki could get in very serious trouble and possibly be shut down if we violate copyright laws too much, so I much prefer to not take the risk to host entire comicbook pages, much less several connected pages from the same story. 🙏

Reading this, I see some people saying that you cannot directly access images older than the 10 latest ones in your Gyazo gallery.

While this is true, there's a pretty easily way to go around this without paying any subscription; using a collection.

They don't have any limit to how many images one can have. They also don't have the access limit and you can access any image in a collection at any time without a subscription.

The only two problems, which are very minor, are these:
  1. Adding images to a collection is a bit tricky on PC (or PC mode on phone) is tricky. You have to first upload them to your regular gallery and then manually assign them to a collection. On mobile tho (not desktop mode but normal view mode), you can just go to a collection and add images directly there without all the manual sorting labour.
  2. Another small issue is that when using collections, others can view all the images you post in that collection (link of it like similar to imgur albums), so there's less isolation between scans of different topics. But since Gyazo is mainly only be used for individual-scan links, I think that won't be a problem since it still served its main purpose.

Another thing to add, if someone is wondering, is that yes, you can technically create something similar to imgur albums in Gyazo too. That's what collections are, actually, but more advanced. But you can only have 4 collections without a subscription.

Though as long as you using use it as albums, that won't be an issue. Gyazo doesn't have the problem that imgur does with sometimes breaking albums that are too big, you can add as many images to Gyazo collections as needed.

Imgur really bent me over and banned my account, I was suspended first for posting scans too quickly then IMMEDIATELY AFTER I was banned, so the New God Physiology page scans are all gone. Gimme this weekend and I'll have everything on Gyazo
Thank you, but it seems safer if you use Catbox or Imgchest, given the 10 image limit problem for Gyazo. 🙏

Ant, I think you misunderstood something. Regarding Gyazo, there is not a "10 scan limit", but rather a limit to how much of a "history" is kept on that site, and that is what is 10 scans/links. This means as long as you don't fully delete the link, you will be able to access it. (This can be through sending it anywhere, or just going on the "history" on the device.)

I literally said that you need to archive the links for Gyazo so you don't lose them. Gyazo doesn't have a 10 image limit in what you can keep, only what you can look back on without a subscription.

Okay, so if we link to those scans in our wiki, they will not automatically disappear after a Gyazo member has posted 10 newer images? 🙏

No, they won't disappear. (Will try to explain it in Swedish to hopefully make it clearer..)

English pls.

@Antvasima They won't disappear. You just need to keep access to those links when you take those screenshots either on a discord server or somewhere on the wiki, and so long as you don't accidentally delete the image it won't go away.

You kinda can just bypass that limitation of 10 images if you use collections, since that'll let you access all the images stored inside that collection at any time directly from your collection gallery

So, I take it we're all set with this?
