Immortality Type 1

Thank you. Although it is probably best to wait for a few more replies before appying this.

No.

This change is just a name change on the Immortality page. Profiles with Type 1 would remain listed as Type 1.

Edit: As Ant says though, there may be profiles with "Longevity" listed instead of "Immortality (Type 1)"

Well, not because of this, as the definition itself for Immortality Type 1 stays the same.

However, I think that quite a lot of profiles have mixed up the two terms over the years.

@Monarch Laciel

The bigger issue that I have noticed is that our members have recurrently tended to give any character that simply ages slowly Immortality Type 1, even though this is a very extreme ability.

Can we change it to "Eternal youth" instead of "Eternal Life"? Since you are supposed to not age at all.

@PaChi2

I suppose that "Eternal Youth" might work. What do the rest of you think?

I think that aging without ever dying of old age still qualifies as Type 1, so I disagree with Eternal "youth"

Okay, but keep in mind that people who actually age are more difficult to discern between Type 1 and Longevity.

True, but calling it eternal "youth" would confuse people as to where to place people who age without ever dying of it.

That is true, although a character could have achieved eternal life when already old, such as some of the Elder of the Universe in Marvel Comics.

I know is a bit of a derailment, but:

Can we add Type 1 for characters who already have Type 3? Since people who are immortal thanks to their ability to regenerate won't technically die from old age (logically speaking). Or people with Low-Godly regen onwards.

I think that a character must have explicitly demonstrated an ability for us to list it, as fiction tends to be very inconsistent.

prolly have to disagree, even if Character X's regen can keep them from dying from aging, it's not going to apply to everyone else with type 3. we should go by what their regen has shown/been stated to do.

Anyway, should this topic be considered as concluded, or should the thread remain open for a while longer?

I think this is concluded.

We could add some guidelines to what classifies as Type 1 and what as Longevity if you want to make it easier for people to understand, tho.

"To clarify, unlike Longevity, the characters with this ability do not age at all."

This is worse than simply calling it Eternal Youth, because there's no leeway and it straight up ignores the concept of Age Without Youth. There are characters who do not die of old age can still age, they just can't die of it, for example the prophetess Sybil. This part should be removed.

On the Longevity page, it should simply be noted that people with longevity will eventually die of old age, while those with Type 1 Immortality will not.

@Monarch Laciel

Okay. I am fine with if you want to improve the explanations. What do you suggest?

"Immortality Type 1 can include both those who do not age at all, and those who still grow old, but will never die of old age. However, in the case of the latter it should be made clear that this is not just Longevity"

"Longevity users will eventually die of old age, as opposed to Type 1 Immortality where dying of old age is not possible"

@Monarch

That should be fine. Feel free to adjust the two pages accordingly.

If that is also fine, should we close this thread?
