Dragonball is on my list
The main reason me didnt read it is because there are no colors, and only heard bad things about it etc. etc. like product of if time, unrealistic, dumb and childish, and some other things but im not sure if i would get banned here for such words xD
But theres something I dont get??? How can dragonball sell more than 450 million copies, and what actual mangakas say about it? It doesnt add up. Like demon slayer, some guys say its trash, i have read demon slayer, and even tho the story is simple, its still good! So it somehow justifies the sales numbers, though the anime did a lot of the work^^ i think even without such a quality anime, numbers would still be good.
There are a few people i have met whose opinions i really trust, and according to them ... its great!
pros and cons of dragonball confused me a lot, so i decided to just read it and make up my own mind

Interesting. Dragon Ball is quite praised, but it obviously has its fair share of backlash. Well, more than fair. Most criticisms you see are from people that actually haven't consumed the series and think that because Dragon Ball paved the way for other series, that Dragon Ball itself is inferior. This couldn't be further away from the truth. Just read it for yourself and form your own opinion without being influenced from outsiders who have no idea what they're talking about.
Dragon Ball is praised by like so many mangaka. And yeah, it doesn't have that many copies sold without reason. It has the most copies sold per volume of like all time I think? Demon Slayer might be above currently, but you get the point. The anime did help boost manga sales yes, but most people who weren't exposed to Dragon Ball through the manga were inspired to pick it up because of the anime highlighting how good it is. And you're right, without an anime, the first few volumes sold like 2-3 million copies. This was before the anime, and when it was a gag manga instead of like super serious stakes. Even then it was still filled with strong characterization and world building.
It is, and you'll absolutely enjoy it.

nothing is perfect my friend. but what scared me about dragonball is that its fans heavily criticized it ... thats why i decided to just read it and form my opinion.
no i meant demon slayer. its a good story but the anime boosted its sales but even without it, ds would still do great numbers, in my opinion. My point was that a bad show cant sell as much. While sales numbers dont tell the full story, they are still a good indicator of quality
Im not in the discord anymore, sadly.... There was a big dicussions with multiple japanese guys but it boilts down to this comment

The good thing about Dragon Ball (especially the classic one) is that the panels and the flow, especially during the fights, are really good.
Unlike One Piece, where you basically need a PhD just to figure out what’s going on in the panels.

im pretty excited to read it because it seems unique due to the circumstances surrounding dragonball. the story gets downplayed, even the author, feats (?), fights, and even sales numbers all get downplayed XD
and from what ivve seen, that tomriama guy designed the characters for one of my favorite JRPGs so I MUST read dragonball

it was the kind of picture that, even without many fancy details, you could just look at for hours ...

At least for the manga adaptation, is for the same reason that a person who reads any manga switches to anime. For example, particularly in the Moro saga, there are several moments that I would like to see animated.
Aside from that, Dragon Ball video games can't use any characters that only exist in the manga; an adaptation would allow their use.

The latest anime is a completely original anime (Dragon Ball Daima).
And the latest media adaptation is actually the manga adapting the Superhero movie. (in 2022, and in my opinion, the manga adaptation is better than the movie, actually)

Firstly, how does any of what I said imply Grade 3 makes you over 50x slower?
Secondly, why would Cell jump to Grade 3, which maximizes his power in exchange for losing speed and stamina, instead of the normal Super Saiyan form, which balances power with speed and stamina? Because he was angry. Because he was "blinded by rage". Because his fully powered Kamehameha was instantly nullified moments before, and he needed as much power as possible, regardless of the consequences; he wasn't thinking about the consequences.

Is Superhero movie really that bad?
"Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a prime example of how Toei cares more about cash than craft, knowing full well that Dragon Ball will sell no matter what. It honestly felt like they set the movie up to fail; there was almost no promotion until right before the release (mostly in Japan), and the overseas marketing was even worse. They went full CGI when fans clearly wanted a mix of 2D and 3D animation, and the trailers barely showcased the best parts of the movie.
The excuse of wanting a "CGI experience for the future" didn’t hold up - One Piece Film: Red, made around the same time, actually listened to what fans wanted. The movie pushed a B-list cast and gave almost no promotion to them. Even Toriyama admitted he hadn’t worked much with Gohan and Piccolo for years. To top it off, the games and tie-ins acted like the film didn’t even exist for a long time.
And yet it still like 100 million of dollars. That’s not smart planning: that’s brand power carrying a weak release."
This comment reads like when I have no idea what to cook ... open the fridge, grab whatever, throw it in the oven and hope for the best XD

Trunks outright says that he lost speed, and this comparison is apparently to Cell's "base" form, so ya know?
So Cell was holding back against Gohan with that Kamehameha, but when it got overpowered, he got so mad he forgot(?) he wasn’t even at full power and in desperation jumps to a form he outright calls useless and that of a fool's, rather than just using the objectively better option?
And this somehow lines up with the earlier scene where he shows everyone his "true power" which according to you, just wasn't that?
Oh, and when you say SPC isn't his equivalent of SSJ2, was Cell like, hiding a x50 multiplier in there and didn't use it cause ???
This is sounding a lot like that SSJ Ultimate Gohan fiasco.

Let me put it simply: the movie was originally only about Piccolo, but someone decided Gohan should also be the protagonist.
This ends with the movie ignoring all of his character development in Dragon Ball Super (I don't just mean stopping training), and being so negligent as a father that his daughter doubted whether her dad even loved him. (The manga doesn't fix it, but at least it makes it clear to us that Gohan will try to spend more time with his daughter.)
The final villain is boring (at least there's a gimmick in the manga).
Gohan pulls off a transformation out of nowhere (and the little explanation we get from external sources is poor).
It's not the worst part of DB (for that, probably look the first saga of GT), but it's mediocre at best.
On the other hand, I wasn't bothered much by the CGI.

Do you think Grade 3 has a fixed speed reduction value? The added muscle mass reduces speed and mobility. Powerhouse Cell is much larger than Super Trunks.
I'm reading GPT-level hallucinations right now. His fully powered Kamehameha was overpowered, and he became so mad and so desperate he sacrificed his speed in order to force out as much extra strength as possible. You keep bringing up the scene with Trunks, but it looks like you're forgetting Cell wasn't of sound mind against Gohan?????????????

Literally what you're arguing rn is that base Goku can apparently just charge a Kamehameha enough and that's about as good as going SSJ, which I don't have to explain why that makes 0 sense.
Legit just changing the multiplier from Powerhouse Cell to when Cell is outright said to be at his "true power" makes it at least logically consistent.
