DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

New episode was pretty neat. Solid 9/10.

Fight was pretty neat and the choreography was fairly solid. Void was definitely the highlight and they really did nail him the most, both in the horror factor, character wise and animation. Sentry was ok ig but nothing outstanding with him. SBP was pretty entertaining and the 4th wall breaking jokes weren't as obnoxious as I thought it'd be, I thought they were funny at times and I like that they referenced "kill you to death". Ending was cute and pretty fitting all thing considered but Merged Sentry being really underutilized is kind of an oof. The 2-D stuff is really a step up from previous fights ngl.

The analysis went moreorless as I thought it would be and was surprisingly more streamlined than I thought it would be but that's not a bad thing.

Theme song was the weakest element ngl.

But as I'm watching this entire DB I just can't help but feel (the void) to my self that: "God I wish Sentry was fighting Captain Atom instead"

I mean the grand scheme of things is that Bleach also works on power-based hax, so if you're way weaker than a Bleach character your hax won't exactly work.

Not to help spark a spat between fandumbs, but I think that phrase is best used to critique potentially dissatisfying things that are meant to impress as pyrotechnics but non-integrated and at the expense of its own premise, like cliché tournament arcs and building up characters only to have them choke or be shelved for long periods of time in order to break the plot less. Not something boyishly optimistic and stylish that does satisfy its goal cohesively without hobbling a simple but well-executed premise, such as Gurren Lagann (iirc, it's been a while but I recall liking it).

Like the "if you wont play, pass the ball" or "Others die of thirst, when others are drowning" and so on being common in the youtube videos popping at times

Yeah, Void held the whole thing together not only as a unique aesthetic but also having some more personal barbs come up. More memorable than DB's depiction of Scarlet Witch, Darkseid, Thanos, etc. Merged Sentry doesn't get to do much due to DB hedging their bets while official stories are ongoing, but he did bring a bit of a mournful angle and remind of the man needing to be saved (hence it being normal Sentry's sprite taking the final punch) instead of it being all monster. No comment on Captain Atom but I'm glad to see one of these have a conclusion more optimistic and in-character than a hero killing another hero; personally think the killing requirement hobbles the writing in most of these, but I guess "Death Battle" has more of a ring to it than just "Battle."

Also agreed that Prime was mercifully less memey than he could have been. Even had a bit of an arc going from not taking his violence seriously until Void threatens everyone with a bad ending, countering that with compassion for Bob. Question is, can he beat Linkara's Lightbringer?

There's been a lot of leaks for future Avatar content (mainly the canonical story of the fighting game, and what what Korra did in the backstory of Seven Havens) that, if they all turn out to be true, would likely put the verse in a higher tier on this site than where it's at right now. Would be funny if this episode comes comes out, then the fighting game comes out next month and gives buffs to Aang.

Funny enough, DB didn't use Sentry getting killed by Knull as a way to downplay or limit his overall power.

Which really shows us Sentry losing to Knull or not wouldn't change the outcome. Prime won mainly because he took on guys way more powerful than what Sentry fought (The Darkest Knight).

If they did this DB before Prime fought TDK, Sentry might have had a chance.

The only way Sentry could have matched Prime was if he fought a full power Molecule Man or fully ascended Beyonder. But as far as I can tell, Marvel really doesn't let their roster beat guys with those levels of power often, if at all.

I could fairly easily see Death Battle arguing higher end Arrancar interpretations based on offhanded statements of weaker characters saying they can destroy stars or scaling chains based on Ulquorra's debately being the strongest (or second strongest) Arrancar that could make him comparable in strength to Schutzstaffel.
 
For next time.

I not that worried about the analysis, I think they should do a good job portraying both characters. Most of this years analysis are fire. I am a little worried with Traveler since his story is not done, but is probally fine.

For the Battle itself, Genshin have many fans who are very good at animating in 3D, so If they hire someone to do It, is should be good.

Actually another note. I wished the initial SBP vs Sentry section was longer and I wished more of Sentry's stuff was displayed more, like his matter manipulation and his regeneration. I feel having SBP resort to the retcon punch after noticing Sentry's regeneration, which then leads to Sentry semi-glitching into Void as he wonders why his Regen isn't doing it's work would've been a really cool segway. Doesn't really ruin anything but I feel it would've added to the fight a lot more.
 
A hypothetical Gwen vs Prime match should end with a joke about how the entire match was just to see who has to pay the tab.
