Magnitude 6 via Meteor Impact

Hey, a meteor crash that results in a magnitude 6 quake has an explosion yield of 124.4 Megatons of TNT, right?

For meteor impacts, the formula for energy in Joules is: 10^((Richter Magnitude + 5.87)/0.67)

So in this case it would be 5.2E+17 J, which is 124.4 Megatons as stated in the original post.

If the magnitude 6 is felt a very long distance away from the site of the impact, then the actual magnitude of the meteor can be higher.

Alright. But, if I just plug in the magnitude of 6, then it would be 124.4 Megatons?

I wasn't thinking about if it could be felt a long distance away. Just about plugging in 6 as the magnitude.

Yep, it just plugging in, though the results will be in Joules, but you can covert to Tons of TNT (divide by 4.184E+9).
