RWBY Vol 9 General Discussion Thread: Multiverse Of Therapy

We need to definitively make Magic in RWBY a UES (Physically Multi-Solar System level gods)

That penny lifting Amity Calc to be added to a blog on the wiki and to slightly upgrade the maidens

The Maiden downscaling because I'm sick and tried of the profiles basically saying 8-A characters can survive attacks from a low 7-B

Aura being listed as Higher up to Far Higher or x Tier with Aura

Aura being self soul Manipulation like how Ki in Dragon Ball was accepted as, Aura granting limited soul Manipulation resistance

Oh also Aura resistance against Electricity, baseline Power absorbing, and Possession (Ice Queendom), ice queendom keys, making a Beacon Key split into a Beacon Key and Vytal Festival Tournament key

This list is a bit outdated and needs some work but the general gist is:

At the bottom of the skill chain is aura users as a whole. While every living being in RWBY technically has Aura, actually being able to utilize it in combat for things such as defense, regen, and senses requires years of training and a high enough degree of martial skill that only a small percentage of the population of the entire planet ever become skilled enough to utilize their aura. And yes you actually need martial skill for it, as both Jaune and Oscar had to be personally mentored in martial combat just to be able to use their Aura n a fight for more than a few seconds, which is backed up by both RWBY guidebooks confirming that you need martial skill just to be able to use Aura.

Of that small percentage, an even smaller percentage ever become skilled enough to manifest/control a Semblance (this is also conformed to be skill-based by the guiebooks). To reach this small percentage comes to the second half of the bottom of the chain: Almost every character worth their salt in RWBY has spent their entire life training in combat and can fight hordes of Grimm with little issue (Almost because Jaune exists). The entirety of the main cast of RWBY was initially enrolled at Beacon Academy, one of the most prestigious combat schools in the world, with almost everyone who was accepted there having been trained for almost their entire life to fight monsters, and each one that was not professionally trained requiring a skill display overseen by Ozpin, who has the composite skill of several thousand professional huntsmen that he accumulated over his immortal lifetime.

Thats the baseline for skill in the verse.

Before the Beacon Arc Ruby had been personally trained by her uncle Qrow in combat (Qrow being directly acknowledge as one of the most skilled Huntsmen in Remnant's history), and as a result of this training she was noted as always excelling above her peers in combat. At the start of the series Ruby was at a level of skill that even though she was two years away from being eligible to join Beacon she was admitted due her combat prowess impressing Ozpin, with him noting that she was already a master at wielding one of the most dangerous weapons he had ever seen. She is also noted as being significantly more skilled in combat than Yang, with Yang at that point in the series being skilled enough to casually analyze the combat patterns of two of the best assassins in the world fighting her in tandem, and analyzing them to the point that she was able to predict exactly what moves they were going to use and react to them without even needing to see them.

Above Ruby at this point is Velvet. Velvet is able to perfectly and instantly mimic the exact moves that she observes other people use in combat as well as utilize multiple different fighting styles simultaneously, both armed and unarmed. Thanks to Anesidora, Velvet is also able to copy fighting styles that utilize weapons, and she is able to wield the weapons that she copies just as effectively as their original user. To date that we know of, Velvet is able to simultaneously utilize the fighting styles and weapons of Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, Nora Valkyrie, Sun Wukong, Penny Polendina, Coco Adel, Peter Port, Reese Chloris, Fox Alistar, Vega Bleu, Yatsuhashi Daichi, Russel Thrush, Roy Stallion, Neptune Vasilias, Brawnz Ni, Bartholomew Oobleck, Flynt Coal, Edward Caspian, and Scarlet David. Of note, every person listed spent their entire lives training in combat and several of them are professional huntsmen with decades of combat experience. Also of note, the guidebook directly states that this is the level of skill that Ruby would have reached in the next year or so of training at Beacon.

Above Velvet is Nebula Violette, who not only outmatched Velvet in a 1v1 test of martial skill, but was directly stated by Velvet's team, who spent years fighting alongside her and was fully aware of what she was capable of, that Nebula was more skilled than Velvet in combat despite Velvet mixing numerous fighting styles to try to throw her off in their fight.

Above Nebula is Pyrrha Nikos, the skill god of the Beacon Arc. Pyrrha is the single most skilled student at Beacon Academy, having competed in dozens of combat tournaments since she was a pre-teen and having won every single one of them without anyone ever landing a single blow on her throughout her entire combat career. Her skill is due to both her mastery of combat and mastery of her semblance, being able to apply it in combat completely undetected and having done so in almost every fight she's been in for over a decade, doing so with such skill and precision that she has lead many to believe she is untouchable and invincible and not even Atlas' scientists using technology designed specifically to analyze students and their semblances were able to figure out what her semblance was. Even without her semblance she has shown the ability to quickly and easily adapt to her combat situation and analyze her opponents while fighting and changing tactics to suit the situation she is in. She has shown extreme accuracy, being able to hit moving targets from hundreds of meters away and strike vital weak points on an opponent mid-combat both with and without the aid of her semblance. She is also highly skilled at using her weapon's multiple forms in combat, being able to switch between forms several times in rapid succession to both deliver rapid attacks and counter others simultaneously.

Then theres Mercury. Mercury is a veritable master of close combat, having spent his entire life training in pure martial combat to make up for his Semblance being stolen by his father. He is shown to be a very acrobatic and agile fighter who relies upon quickly overpowering his opponent with complex kicks that imply a near-mastery of martial arts that resemble Tae-Kwon-Do. He is also capable of a break-dancing style, similar to Capoeira, and makes use of Muay Thai as well. Despite his focus on kicks, Mercury also uses his hands to grapple, block or redirect enemy attacks. His experience and skill are aggressive and effective enough to drive even fighters of a high caliber, like Pyrrha, into a defensive position, with Word of God confirming that Mercury would defeat her if he fought her seriously. Due to his fighting style, Mercury relies on his swift and quick reflexes to counter and block his opponent's attacks as first demonstrated during his fight with Yang Xiao Long, altering the course of her punches and using his footwork to raise her fists and kick underneath or around her attacks. Despite the presumed awkwardness of his weapon's ranged capabilities he is a skilled marksman, able to shoot a phone out of a person's hand from a good distance away, and is proficient at using the many different forms of projectiles at his disposal to keep his opponents off balance. Mercury is also known to be observant, tactical, and analytical, able to notice and deduce the capabilities and limits of Pyrrha's Polarity Semblance after she uses it once during their brief fight, despite Pyrrha using it extremely subtly in combat and having spent her entire life honing her ability to hide her Semblance and its mechanics from her opponents and the general public.

Then there's Adam. Adam was seen as a major threat not only to Mercury, but to the combined forces of Mercury, Emerald Sustrai, and Cinder Fall, to the point that Cinder felt the need to have obtained the power of the Fall Maiden in order to negotiate with him (ie. Adam through sheer skill was seen as more of a threat than a Maiden, one of the most powerful women on the planet with spammable elemental powers and one of the only people in the entire world capable of using Magic). He is skilled to the point that during the Beacon Arc he casually beat Yang with a single attack, and later in the series he was able to 2v1 Yang and Blake and almost won, with them only winning due to Yang knowing about Adam's semblance mechanics and having a prosthetic arm durable enough to withstand it, and even then it was a close fight (With both Yang and Blake having gone through two training arcs to hone their skill since the Beacon arc). Of note for this, Adam willingly fights BLINDFOLDED, and he is still demonstrably more skilled than Mercury and Mid-series Yang.

Then there's the Ace Ops. For reference, Atlas Academy's vetting process is canonically more strict than Beacon's due to it being a military school on top of a Huntsman academy, so they only accept the best of the best. All of the members of the Ace Ops graduated top of their class from Atlas Academy, meaning that they are quite literally the best of the best of the best. Ruby not only outmatched Harriet Bree, but scales to the rest of her team in skill who also outmatched members of the Ace ops, Elm in particular being canonically the most skilled person out of all the ace ops, with Clover being the only member ranked above her in combat solely due to his semblance rather than outright skill, and Yang outmatched her in combat. Included in this group is also Winter, who spent her entire military career training to be the replacement host of the Winter Maiden and even without the Maiden Powers is considered the most skilled soldier in the Atlas Military.

During the Atlas Arc, the Ace Ops personally trained Team RWBY up to their level of skill and beyond, to the point that Ruby not only outmatched Harriet Bree, the second in command of the Ace Ops, the rest of her team also outmatched members of the Ace ops, Elm in particular being canonically the most skilled person out of all the ace ops, with Clover being the only member ranked above her in combat solely due to his semblance rather than outright skill, and Yang outmatched her in combat, with Ruby being more skilled than Yang by Yang's own admission in volume 9.

Above them is Neo. Having been trained in the art of infiltration and assassination at Lady Browning’s Preparatory Academy For Girls, a covert school which trains some of the most elite female spies and assassins in the world, Neo is extraordinarily skilled in combat. Her fighting style is highly evasive, focusing on dodging, deflecting or maneuvering around her opponent's strikes until she has exhausted them, or until she is ready for a counterattack. She is very acrobatic and exceptionally skilled in hand-to-hand combat, relying on her agility to dodge and misdirect enemy movements and attacks, before retaliating with her own attacks resembling a mix of Bartitsu, Fencing, and Capoeira. Her skill is such that she casually defeated opponents such as Yang and Ruby early in the series and later on the entirety of Atlas Arc Team JNR and Oscar while toying with them the entire time, and by the end of the arc taking on both Ruby and Blake simultaneously and largely keeping them on the defensive. By word of God, Neo's skill is sufficient to defeat Mercury Black in a one on one fight.

Qrow scales above all of this, to the point that he can casually match Winter fighting against him seriously while he is drunk and holding back by not using his strongest weaponry or fighting style, Mercury is outright scared to fight him, James Ironwood (who is able to easily outmatch Winter in 1v1 combat and required the combined efforts of Winter, Team JNR, Oscar, and Emerald to take down) is wary of fighting him one on one, and he can match Tyrian Callows (a member of Salem's inner circle who has personally hunted down and killed hundreds of professional huntsmen). Even as a huntsman in training he had no formal training but was innately skilled enough to not only get into Beacon via sheer skill, but for Ozpin to recognize his skill to the point of taking him under his wing and personally training him in combat, as well as choosing him as one of the few people in his multi-millenia lifespan to receive a fraction of his magic for use in defending remnant.

And above Qrow is Ozpin, who has the combined combat skill and experience of countless huntsmen due to his reincarnations, which composite the skills of all of his past lives into the next reincarnation.

That's a lot of yap just for Ruby to get Maka'd to death

Pretty sure like 80% of that is overblown to hell and back (not to mention the whole "aura users are skilled" thing was torn to pieces last I remember)
Already explained why Ruby wins on the DB thread

I mean, you'd have to ask the writers about that, theyre the ones who put a direct statement that you need combat skill in order to use Aura in the guidebook and show lol

You need the baseline skill and practise to keep it actively conscious all the time as explained by Ren, until it becomes second nature. Otherwise aura is just varying-power dependent, or can literally be unlocked for you like Pyrrha did to Jaune.

Pretty sure Ozpin also mainly enlisted Ruby for her Silver Eyes too, less that she was some sort of prodigy (which the show hadn't really proved atp. They forget half the things they write for her') Dont think Beacon in general is that picky about having a particular power level, given the threat of Salem and the need for numbers since huntsmen are eligible to get fodderised whenever they can offscreen.

Exactly

Eh, I guess?

The skill chain makes sense with little flaws that are not worth bringing up but team Rwby shouldn’t scale to the ace ops.

They should scale easily. They were trained by them and beat them in a fight. Ruby even says that they are the best huntresses in Atlas and proceeded to prove that
Eh, They were holding back and it doesn’t make sense for them to catch up that fast if there’s a word of god on it I’ll accept it but right now I don’t.

Eh, They were holding back and it doesn’t make sense for them to catch up that fast if there’s a word of god on it I’ll accept it but right now I don’t.
They were not holding back. Harriet and Elm were explicitly trying to harm them. And it does make sense for them to catch up that fast considering how they are all prodigies. Again, they beat them in a fight fair and square.

Eh, They were holding back and it doesn’t make sense for them to catch up that fast if there’s a word of god on it I’ll accept it but right now I don’t.
It does make sense though? They went through several months of personal training which was reinforced by the lore from Arrowfell that made it a canon thing that huntsmen have accelerated development when being trained in an unfamiliar location

Also the only one who wasnt actively trying to beat them was Marrow, and Vine and Elm were explicitly trying to kill yang and blake

Yeah, Marrow was the only one actually holding back otherwise his semblance coulda just stopped em right off the bat if he wasnt trying to broker peace.

Ace Ops w/o Clover were trash anyway if im completely honest. They seem to be better suited to handling Grimm than one-on-one fights with other huntsmen anyway, which there is a major difference in. Thats more to do with the writing tho since narratively theyre meant to be the best hunstmen in Atlas. Penny and Winter still > than them tho even if thats not their official title

To my knowledge these two CRT I made haven't been added

Now if someone could add these accepted CRT's that'd be great

Replying because I believe somewhere on this side of the forum someone mentioned what to do with these... explanations, it's best to make a blog or a page going over this with scans and citations supporting the justifications. Just so it doesn't get condensed into a singular post everytime it is brought up into discussion.

I plan to when i do the overhaul for this list

How do you all feel about this video?

Can somebody tell me what she says? I swore to never watch another one of her videos. If you think I don't deserve that, that's fine as I made the decision. On another note can someone calc the grimm blind worm that I mentioned? It appears in one of the books and in the epilog of rwby v9
To my knowledge these two CRT I made haven't been added

Also shouldn't Ambrosius's profile be updated as he does show a feat with infinite energy

She is the strongest of the three. They used the most vague, roundabout way to scale Toga to prime All For One while also severely downplaying Neo.

I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt that this is their most biased blog theyve ever done.
but what could neo do against trillions of toga? or is sad man's parade not valid for her?

but what could neo do against trillions of toga? or is sad man's parade not valid for her?
She doesnt make trillions, at most she makes tens of thousands

Sad Man's Parade is a double edged sword in that each clone gets exponentially weaker, so while there are more clones, Neo can effectively just oneshot them, even moreso when she now has the ability to make a group of a dozen clones of Penny that can just fly around the battlefield out of range of Toga's attacks.

Alternatively she can just disguise herself as Toga and blend into the horde.

Is it only biased because a RWBY character is losing...?

Toga vs Darumi is >>>> anyway. I dont get why ppl think Neo vs Toga is a good fight

“The Maiden downscaling because I'm sick and tried of the profiles basically saying 8-A characters can survive attacks from a low 7-B”
Why do people keep trying to make this upgrade. Team rwby got absolutely stomped in 5v1 with one of them being a maiden. Also winter got trashed to a ton of her bones being broken after trying to fight cinder directly for a few seconds.

Nobody is making this argument. They have Low 7-B feats without maiden scaling.

Someone literally said that with the qoute, but what new feats do they have now?
Im aware that a certain someoe here keeps saying it, said certain someone doesnt know what theyre talking about.

Also, downscaling is a thing. The maidens are stronger than the main cast but the main cast is still fully capable of hurting them, most notably Winter cutting off Cinder's arm.
